  1. Anyway, I am thinking of building an RPi server to replace an older Win laptop. My current DAC has an I2S input I would like to start utilizing. I have seen a couple of add-on Pi DACs that tote an I2S to USB output. Is there a way I can just pull that I2S stream off the RPi directly to my DAC? If so, how? Thanks for the help in advance.
  2. The only problem I can foresee is that since my floorstanding speakers are DIY I purposely designed them so the tweeters are ear high at the listening position. So any thick supports etc will only raise my tweeter out of its optimal height. Grrr. I will need to find a suitable, thin surface to place under my painted MDF speaker bottoms if I wish to utilize the roller bearings. What are other people using and their thickness? If I do place a thick-ish (1"+) base for the rollerball floor platform should I spike that through the carpet?
  3. Wow. It just took me 3 days to read this whole thread. I am liking all of the back and forth discussion, advice, and experiments. However, I do not remember one question being answered: How do you use the roller/cup solution to floorstanding speakers when on thick carpet? Do you just rest the cups on the bare carpet? Do you use a solid base beneath the cups? If so, what material? Maple, granite, etc? Right now I just have my speakers on cheap Parts Express spikes that poke through the carpet to the subfloor. Also I see many people using the rollers especially underneath their DACs. I just recently picked up a Chord Mojo DAC that is only 3.2" x 2.4" x 0.9", pretty small. So any ideas to the ideal way to isolate/dampen this little piece of kit? Any help is appreciated!
  4. You can too help. Just recommend me a great psychiatrist. I will go there immediately!
  5. I would be interested in that if I wasn't so anti-apple. Don't ask. However, I too, am interested in a touch screen mini laptop for music playback using Jriver.
  6. I really wished I received this advice before I purchased my used Dell Mini 10. It is everything you just described. That is why I am looking for a same sized alternative. My audio shelf is built in and I have hardly any room for a laptop. A 10"-11" fits perfectly.
  7. That laptop featured in the above blog post isn't really available anymore. Plus it is much bigger than the OP wants. That Acer Aspire looks neat. Is the HDD in that Acer replaceable? I, too, am looking for a 10"-11" laptop for a music server. I already have a SSD ready to go in the machine. Currently I have a Dell Mini 10 running Jriver and am not liking the performance too well. All I use it for is playback and it freezes and pauses both my programs and music. And yes, I have stripped the Win7 pro OS to the minimum for smoothest operation.
  8. Sorry for the necropost.... When you do use the internal HDD for playback how loud is the fan on the Dell Mini? I am currently using an old Dell Inspiron E1505 for my music server and the fans are always on. Plus my battery is so dead that I cannot unplug it AT ALL. So I was thinking of picking up one of those Dell Mini's, popping in a 128GB SSD and a 2GB stick of memory and calling it a day. Any other thoughts?
  9. I have Rockbox'ed the iPod in the past. However, since I also connect the device to a car radio and other devices I need to keep the stupid, stock iOs.
  10. Sorry to necropost... Anyone know if the iPod Classic 5.5 can use this plugin to play .flac files?
