  1. Thanks Audio Elf. That is exactly the type of stuff I needed to know. Never even heard of a USB to SPDIF converter before that post and stuff like that is tough to stumble upon in threads as a crucial piece of equipment for a computer audio setup. So when you said you need an amp, does one need a reciever at all or does the computer and SPDIF converter cover everything that a reciever normally does? I know of NAD audio equipment and like their stuff but will look into those other companies as well.
  2. Yeah, honestly I am not worried much about the room setup at present, that can be modified and adjusted as is needed and is not really "computer" audio specific and will be similar to the needs for a normal non-computer based theater room. I am/was hoping to get some information on the actual audio components/setups that can be hooked up to a computer that can outperform installing a soundblaster sound card and a set of logitech speakers. Can anyone help me with that at all? Uhh, yeah, the equipment I should actually be looking at getting is what I was trying to ask about from the start...
  3. The room is approximately 14 feet by 8 feet with 9 foot ceiling. The room has drywall walls (with concrete under the drywall), bamboo laminate flooring. The furniture is two lazyboys on a raised platform (6 inches off the ground) and a leather loveseat below and in front of that platform with a small narrow coffee table in front of them and small side tables. It is going to be a room designed for nothing but a home theater, I will likely add lighting along the walls with a dimmer that is controlled via the remote control.
  4. Ohio? That place is a oasis compared to where I am. I am located in Fort McMurray up in Canada. I would be getting most of the components from Edmonton or Calgary as there are not really any retailers of high end stuff in this town and if there were they would be way overpriced.
  5. I am in the preliminary stages of planning a computer centered home theater room with a 4k Sony VLP-1000es projector. I want to set up the audio with surround sound for the gaming and movies but I also want it to be outstanding for music as well and allow me to switch to more of a reference sound (my favorite headphones are the AKG 701 and I love their detail). I want a great front stage for music and to be able to switch settings and balance for the movies and gaming to be more surround sound focused. Can you buy high end audio receivers and amps and have the sound signals from a computer channelled through them? What is the best way to do this? The sound coming straight off of a mother board, off of a sound card into the receiver? Is the sound card redundant with the receiver? Is there something you can install into the computer that modifies and sends the audio signal to the receiver in a better way they a computer can normally manage? I want to get away from a computer orientated sound card and computer speakers and go more into a high end audio system setup that handles all of the audio from my components including the computer and was wondering if this is ultimately the way to go to get the best audio out of a computer. Price is not hugely limited within some reason (no more then 25k on the audio components including the speakers, receiver, amp, and any DAC's or other devices I might need.) Trying to get the whole room built for around 60k total.
