  1. I'm of the "weakest link" school: all components in the conversion chain should be reasonably well-matched in terms of quality and budget. Most of the LPs I'll be converting are fairly well-worn. I think I'll be happy with this as my final setup: Music Hall MMF-5 Ortofon 2M blue Graham Slee Amp 2 SE Sony PCM-M10 Very small tweaks via DSP on the computer The latter would include click and pop removal (for heavily worn vinyl) and maybe a rumble filter.
  2. I just made an offer on the Graham Slee Amp 2 SE on Audiogon. Wish me luck! I think the only way this music will have the same emotional impact now that it did 35 years ago is if I quit taking Prozac. Again, wish me luck! I'm very serious friends...the brain is the last filter....
  3. Yeah, I spent the last 2 hours reading a dizzying array of reviews and recommendations in the $150-300 range. I need to just throw a dart and pick one.
  4. Thread resurrection! I'm selling my Harman Kardon CDR30 in favor of something more modern and versatile: the Sony PCM-M10. So my digitizing chain will look like this: Music Hall MMF5 with Ortofon red cartridge Pioneer SC-05 AVR (just the phono preamp) Sony PCM-M10 PC (LP Ripper) My biggest concern is what happens to the signal in my SC-05 AVR. I hope it doesn't go through A/D and then D/A before getting to the line out.
  5. OK, first-time poster here, but I really had to comment on this. First, the Airport Express has a pretty impressive DAC considering its price. I use mine to feed Apple Lossless to a $2000 stereo setup in my living room, and I've never felt that the AE was the weak link. My Apple TV (2) doesn't have any analog audio output at all. I think is because Apple wanted to avoid the "analog hole" that content owners used to fret about. For me, using the ATV2 for music is a non-starter, because the ATV2 re-interpolates the signal. In fact I'm probably going to sell the ATV2 and get another AE. I appreciate the detailed review by CA, and I will be asking Santa to put a deepblue under my Christmas tree. :-)
