  1. Does anyone have first hand experience whether the overheating issue is resolved in new production units at DSD512 using the HW as shipped (without additional fans) and original FW? If so, would you let us know please?
  2. That's what I was thinking/hoping would be the case. I was thinking of the large RAM and noise free aspects of the HW requirements described above, as much as processing power... Thanks for confirming - cheers
  3. Right. I might be able/willing to store converted and upsampled files at say DSD128. I was thinking of the HW required to do the conversion - is the level of PC described above still needed (if we don't mind if it takes longer to do the conversion & upsampling)
  4. Thanks. That makes sense. If converting and upsampling and saving in advance, prior to playing, is the same level of HW required?
  5. Interesting... It sounds like so far we're talking about upsampling on the fly, in real time. Has anyone here tried converting PCM to DSD and upsampling in advance, and storing the result? (I'm guessing probably yes, if iSW exists that supports this, as I think it does). If so, did it sound as good or better than upsampling on the fly?
  6. Thanks everyone. I have quite a few (easily >1000) recordings, hence I'm a little concerned about the space requirements of lossless encoding, but still leaning toward going that way... I'm curious about the thinking behind recommending upsampling in real-time when playing, vs when ripping. Anyone care to explain their thought process?? Is the idea to store the minimally processed version, closer to the 'original CD? Or is anyone thinking that upsampling later via the DAC vs the PC based ripping SW would sound better? (HW vs SW based performance differences, perhaps?)
  7. Friends and fellow forum users, I'm getting ready to begin (re)storing my CD library on a hard drive, and have a question I'd welcome input on... IF not using a lossless format and using a good upsampling DAC, is it better to upsample to say 192kbs when ripping? or just as good to rip at the native CD bit depth and sample rates and let the DAC handle upsampling? I plan to be using a Windows computer, and a recent (and very good quality) DAC - many if not most of which support upsampling. I have not yet decided whether I am willing to allocate the space for lossless storage. If I do decide not to use a lossless format, is it better to up sample when ripping or in the DAC? And if so and why is that? Thanks much in advance.
