  1. I haven't investigated a remote for the 501 but I did get Jremote (I think that's right) for my Iphone and, while it takes some getting use to, it seems to work pretty well. Cost $3 or so. Unfortunately, my cousin just left with his Playback Designs dac which sounds MUCH better than the Teac. However, the Teac is pretty good when you consider the absurd price difference($6k vs $$750). Someday I will need a better dac (as will most of you) but for the time being, this will do nicely. Just know that there is a difference and it ain't subtle. steven
  2. OK guys, I think MAYBE I have this thing set properly. I have not seen this info anywhere before but my cousin found it for me earlier tonite. 1) Go into DSP Studio and set output encoding to none-(NOT DSD anything). That seems to make Jriver do all of the processing which results in everything being upconverted and caused the "skipping" that was driving me nuts. 2) In Player/Playback Options, go to Bitstreaming(2nd item under Settings) and select Custom. The 7 boxes on the left should be blank except DSD. I think that's it. Now the Teac display shows whatever the source was-44k to 2xDSD. As it should. The clicking/skipping is gone. This is w/Windows 7. I'll be curious if others use the same settings. steven
  3. ....well, let's see. Just how stupid CAN I be? Good question. I pulled the usb cable that I started using(local shop's store sample AQ Coffee-sounds great) but when I put back the Belkin that I paid $8 or so to buy, noooo problems. So, is it a problem with the cable where the shielding is separated from the connector or simply bad luck? Who knows-but for numerous hours now the dac has worked just fine. Just a ridiculous situation-the cable functions fine for the store. I haven't tried 2xDSD since I only have 4 or 5 files and I just don't hear any difference. I'm sure it's there but I doubt the Teac is good enough to show it. My cousin has a Playback Designs dac @ $6k list and the difference is real but subtle. I will keep my fingers crossed and report in a few days. BTW just FYI, my cuz and I are getting a Korg MR 2000s adc. It does DSD and 2xDSD. And I only have 19,000 lp's to choose from. Come to papa. steven
  4. Well, Murphy has once again come out of my closet to kick me you know where. Since I was still in the trial period I figured I would go ahead and pay and check for the newest build. Why do even try. Build .y4 is for Mac-I have Windows. And of course, when I did the download I received buid .54 not the .67 that I had BEEN using. Foiled again. If something good doesn't happen soon I will cancel the order for a new usb cable and give up. Unless, of course, someone helps me fix this thing. steven
  5. A friend helped me Saturday after he had studied online(he's a computer geek) and found that build 67 should have fixed the problem. However, when I initially set it up I used the workaround so both ways worked. This moring when I turned the machines on I got the windows sounds coming thru the system. I realized it was not doing that when I shut down and restarted yesterday. Os there is a clue for someone. Also, if I stick a headphone into the CPU plug, I get sound so it may have to do with the usb out. I played part of a track, hit stop and started another track. Now it doesn't work again. My next move is to shut everything down and restart. Back in a minute. steven
  6. While I readily admit I am not the best computer audio guy-well, I barely know what I am doing, I did get my Teac going and was VERY pleased. That was then and this is now. I can't get ANYTHING to work. Returning the Teac is looking more and more appealing. First I couldn't get Jriver19 to do DSD BUT it played 192k just fine. And the Teac software worked great except for the fact that it is totally unusable for a large library of classical music. Then I got Jriver working. Then Jriver became intermittent. But the Teac software still worked. Now NOTHING works. This is really frustrating. With Teac the message is "Playback device is not available (device = TEAC ASIO USB DRIVER)". With Jriver ver 19.0.67 the message is "Something went wrong with playback. Details:Playback could not be started on the output "ASIO" using the format '44.1 kHZ 64bit 2ch'. The ASIO device 'TEAC ASIO USB DRIVER' does not support 2 output channels. (card supports 0 output channels maximum)". Bear in mind that it was playing just fine at DSD before it simply stopped running. However, if I tried to play ANYTHING when the Output Encoding in DSP Studio was set as 2xDSD, I would get audible clicks and dropouts-kinda like a scratched lp. I am completely lost and I beg for any help I can get. When it works, it's pretty damn good-not my Basis table but WAY better than I expected. But I can't get this working. HELP!! steven slgladstone@yahoo,com Dell Inspiron 560 Pent Dual-core 3.2 Ghz w/6gig ram w/Win 7.
  7. I had ordered my 501 in black and it didn't arrive when promised. I called to find out that black was B/O but silver was available. I took the silver and it arrived 11/1-they sent it 3 day at no extra charge. steven
  8. I just got my Teac from the Factory Direct store and am delighted. $750 ppd w/30 day return-I didn't care about the restock fee. I just didn't know how real the reviews were. This thing exceeds my wildest dreams. I bought it for my desk system at home (Perreaux R200i integrated/Sonus Faber Electa speakers/Transpaent IC's-stupid good for a desk) and it's absolutely great. On the main system w/50ft old Monster balanced cables feeding the ARC Ref 5, I really wasn't prepared for the level of performance I got. It ain't vinyl but it IS very enjoyable to listen thru. I shudder to think what a big boy dac might do. But I don't care. I just need to figure out DSD native and 2xDSD. To be able to sit and listen to digital and not feel shortchanged vs vinyl is simply amazing at this price. Buy this dac. steven
