  1. Try the settings advised by May from SOtM, these are a start : download the lattest kernel (beta mode), lower the CPU and as Stefano says : listen and if you enjoy it, you’re there.
  2. I think (this is very personnal) that the sound quality is better : more natural, better definition, but this is more subjective and personnal. I did 3 updates in the process : eunhasu OS, kernel, and MPD so analysing any improvement is a bit random, although I "think" I like it better now 😁 My 2 cents of advice : just try it, it doesn't cost much and you probably won't have any regrets.
  3. I confirm : the updated version is 23.13 You need to uninstall MPD first, and install it again and it updates to the newest available on the SOtM OS
  4. Thanks @stefano_mbp for sharing the update info. Everything went fine for me (sms-200 ultra neo) : system upgrade to 0.5.4 without sweat kernel upgrade from 5.14.9-211.fc32.armv7hl to 6.1.33-210.fc32.armv7hl
  5. I use the Sandisk extreme pro witch is very fast, but couldn’t hear any difference from other cards
  6. Thanks for the update, what I add to my knowledge here is updating solves most problems 😉
  7. View Classified SOtM SMS-200 ultra For sale is this SMS-200 ultra in really good condition. It comes in its original SOtM box with its original power adapter. I recently upgraded for the same model with external clock outputs for my reclocker and switch, so this one has to go. I do speak English and French, so feel free to contact me in either language. I'd be happy to answer any question. Living very close to Paris we can set a test if you wish to, preferably in southern Paris on the left bank (rive gauche) or near 10ème, 11ème, 12ème. 8. Good job to all the SOtM team, I like this update. This is like another christmas present 🤩 Curious thing : the little yellow arrow for the update was on on the previous version, but didn't lead anywhere. I had to burn a new image and load it this way. Note : you may have to update the kernel after installing, it was needed here.
  9. If it may help someone around here, I’ve got my answers : 1/ euphony does read the mac file system, it works perfectly mounts and reads the files 2/ the web page for the server is clean and fast, very easy to use, no need for an app thanks all for this topic, it helped me a lot to jump the fence
  10. I was more thinking about using the mac mini with euphony, not sharing its drives. What king of computer do you use for euphony ?
  11. Hi there, I've been reading this topic for a while, thinking about moving my old mac mini from MacOS w/Audirvana 3.5 to Euphony, or at least give it a try. I have many tera of files and use extensively hi-res Qobuz as well. My first question : my files are on a macos file system, will Europhony be abble ton read them at least ? Second : is there an ipad or iphone app like Audirvana remote ? Thanks for your help, and sorry if the answers are hidden somewhere above in the thread : I did a search as a start, but couldn't find my infos.
  12. Well, tried roon and it did deliver almost the same sound quality for a higher price! There wasn't any possible choice.
  13. I’ve been using Audirvana since its beginnings. At first I needed some simple player able to play both flac and alac files. It was almost 10 years ago. I went on with audirvana because it sounds good and still has this versatile use with everything fitting in : streaming, local files of whatever type, etc. I tried roon, didn’t see any improvement over audirvana worth the price. Now, the choice with going on with audirvana is about sound quality with the new version. Will SQ get better with the new version ? Will I need to keep on susbcribing to use it ? Is it useless if I stop paying ? Or just limited like not offering streaming or unable to add tracks ? Do plugins and room correction still feature in the new version ? I’m a bit cautious and waiting for many feedbacks to know what the new version features and limitations will be compared for its new pricing. Will it still deliver the same services for these 70€ per year ?
  14. AS for Audirvana Studio or Audiophile Style ? 😁 or both ? 🤣 Perhaps a specific thread would be better ? I don't know th policy on that matter, I'm more of a reader here.
  15. I've been using a mid-2011 mac mini server for many years now (https://everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_mini/specs/mac-mini-core-i7-2.0-mid-2011-server-specs.html). I use it both from streaming from Qobuz/Tidal or with local files on the mini SSDs. Great improvements came from power supply update, BT and wifi disconnect, and software tuning (system optimization and using Audirvana+) But, there is a but. You should improve everything around the mac mini. I use my mini somehow as a server : Audirvana does the encoding (oversampling to 2x/32bits) and streaming to a SOtM SMS-200 Ultra. Network is optimized with good ethernet cables and optical seperation between network switches : one on the general side, another on the music streaming side. The SOtM streamer is hit in UPNP and outputs USB to a SOtM reclocker, etc. In conclusion to my little experience, yes the mac mini can be a great server, but it would need a great streamer for greater audio. I really love my music at home. It is really good, it took me years and years of trial and errors, and little steps to have what I like. So whatever you choose, you'll have to work on the surroundings of whatever solution you choose.
