  1. I am using the new amarra 2.6 program and the sonic studio people told me to turn off all sleep and power save settings when pulling up music from the external hard drive. It seems to help with delays. I use the wall wart attached to an Audio Power outlet block. Mine is the two terabyte version that is supposed to be for desktop (non portable). I've had the drive a few months before I upgraded the USB out and FireWire in to my laptop. In the past I have found digital cables, particularly digital coaxial, system dependent, in terms of audio quality. The only burn in on the FireWire I've done is just having it attached with the laptop and drive powered up. When I say grainy it means lossy sounding. By crispy I mean we'll textured
  2. Sandinista and London Calling are very differerent albums texturally. Although both 24/96 downloads sound terrific, as does the newly remastered "Sound System," Mick Jones unearthed, Sandinista benefits the most from the hi rez effort. There are is a lot more sonic detail to be unearthed, and it was easly to miss back in the early 80s, even from the original European vinyl, which I still own in pristine condition. The new mix really come alive with all the multi-ethnic/carribean flavor. A lot of the lesser tracks on Combat Rock also come alive with the 24/96 mix.
  3. I downloaded all five of the studio albums of the clash. Sandinista sounds particularly good because of all the weird effects. So does combat rock. I'm using my Mac Book pro via usb hooked up to an oppo 105 asynchronous dac, to a Marantz AV preamp to a XPA Emotiva 200 watts per channel amp to Vandersteen 2CE speakers. Sounds pretty intense. The bass is very good. I have all the original import vinyl to compare it to, and I think all five downloads rock.
  4. I just downloaded it a few days ago. There are a few good to very good songs, and about five that are just so so. It's better than any of the studio stuff by him I have heard since the wings. It's interesting that he used four different producers, including George Martin's son, and the guy who produces Adele. I give it three and a half stars out of five. The resolution sounds pretty good, although not quite as good as some of the 24/96 stuff I've downloaded from HD Trax.
  5. I bought the next one up, a cinammon firewire between my external WD hard drive and my Mac book pro 13 inch lap top. I'm happy with it, although the first day it sounded a bit grainy. The next day, after a little burn in, it sounded crisper, giving more definition to all genres of music.
