  1. Hi there, I have just realized that the Allo Digione Signature that I have been using since about 4 years is not any longer in stock. I have been running the Allo DS on the top of a RPi 3B+ (running MinimServer + MPD + upmpdcli under a minimal Raspbian) to feeed a Naim DAC (via BNC-BNC cable) for about 4 years and I want to set up a backup/replacement for this system. This is powered by 2 UpTone Audio PSUs: a JS-2 for the dirty side and an UltraCap LPS-1.2 for the clean side of the Allo DS. My question is: are there any strong reasons for going for a Mercury (currently not in stock) instead of a RPi4 + PI2AES 2.0 powered by the same UpTone Audio devices? I tend to prefer my software setup to audiophile distributions but I guess I could set it up on the Mercury as well. On the other end, I only need a BNC output, thus I guess the PI2AES 2.0 is probably my best choice? Thanks, nbpf
  2. Edit: the PI2AES does in fact have a (apparently pretty good) SPDIF BNC output!
  3. Just realized that my DigiOne Signature has been up and running for about 4 years! Are there meanwhile other RP hats offering a good SPDIF output on a BNC connector? The Pi 2 Design devices seem to offer good SPDIF outputs but only on Toslink and RCA connectors ... Thanks, nbpf
  4. In Raspbian it is easy, one only need to add the lines to the file /boot/config.txt. In the same file, I also have I would expect Volumio to have a similar settings file but I never played around with it. With GenTooPlayer you can set the CPU frequency (and much more) in the web interface. Perhaps useful if it gets hotter in the summer.
  5. In this case I would say that Volumio is the culprit. Unless you do oversampling, high cpufreq is not needed for music playback and cpu frequency scaling can actually be detrimental to sound quality. I set my RPi3 (+ DigiOne Signature, MinimServer + upmpdcli) to run at constant 1GHz cpufreq and never had any issue.
  6. I use the DigiOne Signature since it came out, I freely do not think that "burning in" the device will change its sound significantly. Perhaps the U12 has a higher output voltage than the DigiOne Signature? Perhaps it is a better device than the DigiOne Signature or perhaps it just better fits your musical taste?
  7. OK, is it possible to save my settings in 2.14 and reload them in 2.15?
  8. Yet, it's about 2:50 PM and GenTooPlayer reports: GentooPlayer | 05:36 | lun 15/06/2020
  9. Yes, see The current time is 22:26, the GenTooPlayer time is 15:37.
  10. I have to revise this assessment, after GenTooPlayer has been running over night, the date is 7 hours late!
  11. I'll do that, thanks. I have noticed that upgrading from 2.13 to 2.14 was quite slow, is there a way to speed up the process by uninstalling software which is not needed? Also, for maintenance, it would be great to have emacs (emacs-nox, the one without support for X) beside nano. Any idea how to install it? Thanks for the support, Best, nbpf
  12. Upgrading from 2.13 to 2.14 has fixed the date problems and the long booting times, see There is still the problem that I need a file with rc-service upmpdcli restart in a file in /etc/local.d for upmpdcli to become visible in my control points. This suggests the there is still something fishy in the boot sequence.
  13. After a few more tests I am sorry to say that I have switched back to my Raspbian Lite dedicated system. GenTooPlayer 2.13 does not work reliably in my network, either the date is broken or upmpdcli needs to be restarted manually after each reboot or both. Booting is slow and the web interface is sluggish. Perhaps something went wrong when upgrading from 2.12 to 2.13 but then the same problems occurred months ago when I was updating from 2.11 to 2.12. Raspbian Lite boots in a few seconds and is rock solid. After days of inactivity, UpMpd is immediately available and responsive as soon as I open a control point. I will come back to GenTooPlayer in a few weeks/months and then report my findings. Thanks for your support! Best, nbpf
  14. Since I have updated to 2.13, the date of my system is broken. I can fix it manually but, after a couple of days, it is broken again. Right now (Wed 03 Jun 2020 08:25:38 AM CEST) it is: rpi6 ~ # date Sat 30 May 16:43:30 CEST 2020 rpi6 ~ # Any idea how to fix this problem? Also, this morning the device was not connected to the wireless and I had to switch it off and on again. This never happened before.
