  1. Hello everyone, I e-mailed Sonic Studio about taking measurements using chair mode and this is what I got back for an answer. Hi John, Thanks for writing! I'd recommend the mic capsule be placed at ear height and shoulder height as the target points in the space around your chair. Make sure that you measure about 3 feet or 1 meter around the sweet spot for best results. The reports from customers about iRC have been very positive. Let us know how this works for you. Happy measuring, James If you have any other questions or need further assistance regarding this issue, please reply to this email. Best regards, Sonic Studio Technical Support [email protected] Hmmm , With this e-mail response from Sonic Studio and NickBr 's measurement post, it's back to taking more measurements for a new set of filters based on the 3 foot round sphere principle . I have to admit this does seem to make more sense . So how big is the sphere for a couch ? Richard ,it will be very interesting to see what you get back for an answer from Sonic Studio on the this measurement matter ! John Mike
  2. Hi Richard, Clearly, inches makes a big difference in results especially with a burned in microphone ! I can't agree with you more about a figure of a person in a chair or on the sofa for microphone placement reference. You know what I don't get is the the dots are shown on the chair but your suppose to have 3 feet between measurements, what the hell kind of chair is 70+ inches wide ? Am I the only one that thinks this is weird ? It's to bad this isn't plug and play or as easy to use as Amarra by itself. I love Amarra 2.6 without IRC and how it improved my digital music listening without much intervention on my part . I still got a week left to demo Amarra Symphony with IRC, I hope we can all work out the bugs and adjustments before times up. John Mike
  3. Hello Everyone, Im not asking questions today, but giving advice . I know that I missed this little measurement tip my first time taking measurements using the chair setup in the IRC measurement software. Had to redo all filters that I had made . Initial height measurement in the sweet spot is ear level but the remaining measurements are taken at shoulder height. This made a big difference for me in my system, I did not think the 5-6 inches would effect how your filters come out,but boy it sure does . Don't make my mistake ! John Mike
  4. Hi Everyone, Todays question is about the XTZ microphone burn in time . (Sonic Studio recommends an 8 hour burn-in time prior to using all USB-connected mics for measurement.) Exactly how is everyone that purchased the XTZ pro burning in their microphones ? Are you playing music letting the mic pick it up ? Just leaving it plugged into your computer ? Playing that measurement signal over and over ? Will there be a big difference in measurements if not broken in ? Thanks John Mike
  5. Richard, The answer was worth the wait . Thanks, John
  6. Hello Everyone, First, thanks for the responses REShaman and flac. Im finding this thread very interesting . Flac you say in your response (I just realized that you mention the XTZ microphone... I think the calibration is a 0° one. Mark V posts : Originally Posted by flak P.S: I've just read the post which says that the XTZ microphone is calibrated at 90°... as I said it's the calibration that should dictate the orientation of the microphone, so if that is the case the microphone should be used vertically. Im not sure how the XTZ is calibrated (0 or 90 ) Im so confused ! I have contacted the XTZ .microphone company for the exact answer. I will post it here for all to see. Mike
  7. Hello Everyone, I have just received my XTZ microphone Pro ( took about 3 weeks to get here ) and I am going to demo Amarra Symphony with IRC today. I have a questions about microphone placement and hope that my questions are new and have not already been answered previously on this thread. Is the idea to aim the microphone at the speakers or have it in an upright position ? How critical is the placement of the microphone ? Does it have to be exactly the same height and distance from the previous measurement spot ? Can it be off by an inch or does it have to be placed right on . A few of you are using the couch instead of the chair set up or your measurements and have found this beneficial . I have a small listening area. If I use the couch set up for the microphone , my furthest away from the center measurement will be right next to a wall on both sides . Do you think taking a measurement right next to a wall is a bad idea ? Does being in the room while taking the measurements affect the overall results at all ? Should one stand outside the room while the measurements are being taken ? All opinions welcome !
