Sound Liaison now in DSD - converted via analog?
Frankophile replied to Musicophile's topic in Music Downloads & Streaming
Looks a lot like tape and/or tube saturation to me. And I must say that I like the sound they have created. Very warm and very pleasant, sounds a bit vintage, a bit like some of my old favorites from the end of the 50's. Maybe they are not the sort of engineers who are measuring what they are doing but trying to aspire the best conversion just by ear. It's possible that by introducing a little bit of distortion and/or a different frequency curve they do ''embellish'' the sound. -

Problem with the bass is that they have not used a microphone but the piezo pickup, which bass players use when they play live. Too bad, and a real pity for the sound of the album. -

I did not see this Sound Liaison release mentioned here on this thread. The music is maybe a little less easy on the ear compared to the After Silence album given the instrumentation of only piano and drums, but is nevertheless very rewarding upon repeated listening. And the sound quality is stunning. Sound Liaison Music Shop -

I will go for the 9624 PCM. I like my files to be as close to the original studio master file as possible. Or does DSD add another dimension? -
The Carmen Gomes download/album was recorded in front of a small audience present in the studio, and is one of the best sounding vocal recordings that I own. However the question is if it is studio or live or somewhere in between? from the album liner notes ;Thousand Shades of Blue (FLAC)

l wonder how much musicians are involved in the mix and mastering process. Manfred Eicher from ecm is known to be a very dominant producer, deciding which takes are the best and how the recording should sound. Generaly I like his vision but I heard that Pat Metheny left the ecm label because of a disagrement about the sound of an album. -
The Danish singer Sinne Eeg is also worth a listen. ''Waiting for Dawn'' is the album to get from her, I have not found it as a Hi-Res version of that album yet.

Very good suggestions and reminders in this thread. I only miss The 2 Carmen Gomes albums ''Torn' and ''Thousand Shades of Blue'',which I resently downloaded from the Sound Liaison site.Lovely singer and repertoire and the sound is sublime.Miss Gomes and her band are one of the few of the younger generation of bands that dares to use silence as a part of their musical expression, like someone as the late Shirley Horn does so well.http://soundliaison.com/products-from-our-studio-showcase-series/1-carmen-gomes-inc
