  1. Yes, I owned the Original Wyred 4 Sound DAC2. I upgraded to the DSD SE upgrade which replaces a bunch of resistors with Z-Foil resistors, and added galvanic isolation to the USB input, as well as other changes (changes documented on Wyred 4 Sound) website. The upgrade cost $1200 and when I got the unit back, there was a significant improvement to the sound quality. More detail, larger soundstage. Fuller midrange. I then upgraded the DAC again with a Femto Clock (82 fs) for $150, and I received another boost in quality.
  2. Hello, I have been reading the forum the past few weeks and finally bought the Wyred USB Reclocker. I used it with the supplied DC adapter, let it burn in for 60 hours and there was a definite improvement in the sound quality. Tighter Bass, more detail, etc. Well, I ordered the IFI IPower and it arrived today and used it with the RUR, and there was another level of improvement, this time more detail, fuller midrange. I swapped out the original USB cable (no RUR or IPOWER) to A/B test and was amazed at the difference. I am using the W4S supplied cable from PC to the RUR, and the supplied 6" cable from Wyred from RUR to DAC. Any suggestions on cabling recommendations would be appreciated. I have a WYRED DAC2-DSD SE, Wyred ST-250 Amp, Paradigm Studio 20 speakers. By the way, I had to take a break a few times, had headaches from reading very long and wordy posts from "RE".
  3. Richard, I am wondering if this device will even be necessary since the DAC2/DSD SE already has a galvanically isolated USB input with a FEMTO clock built in. Shouldn't the DAC2 completely clean and reclock the incoming USB signal?
  4. Hey everyone, I have not posted in a while. I already own the DAC-2 DSDse, and have ordered the Femto Clock upgrade. The UPS has just delivered my upgrade. I will carefully evaluate the sound of my system with the new unit both when I first hook it up and after burn-in. I notice there is a silver sticker on the bottom of the DAC labeled "Femto Clock Upgrade". Also, a question for any users using JRiver Media Center 19 on the PC platform. If I am using PCM only and not using DSD, is there an advantage of using ASIO vs. WASAPI for the output? By the way, how can I post a message with using the "Reply" option. I do not have much experience in forums. Any help would be appreciated.
  5. Hello, new to this forum. I have also listened to the HDTracks Black Sabbath albums and compared them to the standard CD Versions. The HDTracks versions do sound quite a bit better, with the excepton of the "Vol. 4" album. The HDTracks version of "Vol. 4" sounds worse than the CD. An example of this is the track "Tomorrow's Dream", where the lead guitar has less slam and sounds like a film over the guiter. The track "Cornucopia" sounds MUCH WORSE on the HDtracks, where the lead guitar sounds muffled and thinner. The other 7 albums, I find a very clear improvement with HDtracks being better with more bass, drums being cleaner. I am using JRiver MC 19 with ASIO being fed via USB into a Wyred 4 Sound DAC-2 DSDse, thru a Wireworld Eclipse XLR interconnect to a Wyred 4 Sound ST250 amp, thru Kimber Kable 4TC speaker cabe, to a set of Paradigm Studio 20 (v.5) bookshelf speakers (on the J-29) stands.
  6. Hi. New user here and this is my first post. I have owned a Wyred DAC-2 and a Wyred ST-250 amp since 2011 and was very happy with the sound. I ordered the DAC-2 DADse full upgrade and received the unit back on Sept. 19. I performed an initial burn-in for 250 hours non-stop using the ISOTEK system enhancer utility and here to report my review of the changes to the DAC. I was hesitant at first to order the upgrade because I did not want to fall into that trap where I spent a good deal of money and receive a minor improvement, where I am unsure whether there is a difference or not. (placebo effect). I am happy to report that there is a dramatic improvement in sound quality with the new DAC. I did not tell my friends about the upgrade and they ask me "what did you to to your stereo? sound different (as in much better). The differences I have noticed are: 1) The soundstage is quite a bit wider, with instruments not blending or blurring into each other. 2) More Dynamic Range. Best example of this would be Ravel's Bolero. 3) A lot more detail, especially with transients. The natural attack and decay of percussion is more noticable. I can even hear the natural lingering echo of cymbals even on tracks where the cymbals play over loud passages of electric guitars and heavy bass. 4) Bass is much cleaner and does not mesh with the midrange. An amazing example of this bass is the studio version of "Inside Looking Out" from Grand Funk. This is the first time I actually FELT the bass, especially on my sternum bone. 5) fine instruments, such as bells, tambourine, xylophone where I am used to hearing them faintly in the background now are louder and have more character. A great example of this would be the first two tracks on the "Basket Of Light" album of Pentangle. I am listening on a pair of Paradigm Studio v.5 bookshelf speakers, which I consider to be the weak link in my Hi-Fi chain. I am considering getting the LSA-2 Statement floorstanding speakers as an upgrade (now that they just went Internet Direct). Anyway, I hope this review has been helpful and I highly recommend any product from Wyred 4 Sound. Edward
