  1. Hi Guys, I wanted to pop in and share with you that I have finally fixed my troubles with my Dac2dsdse. Hallelujah! After spending hundreds of dollars more on my system and having to tear down my new computer and rebuild it I can now sit back and enjoy my music for hours uninterrupted. I tell you at times I really wanted to chuck this thing out the window, I'm now glad I didn't. I found out that not all usb ports are equal in performance so I incorporated the SOTM USB audio interface card in the new computer rebuild and surprisingly the card has greatly improved the Dac's performance. Having a dedicated usb port for audio Eliminated the need to set the pre buffer to the higher settings even with the Dac playing back at the highest data rates. The occasional skip, pop and click are gone too. I did want to thank the members here at Ca that tried to help me with my audio woes. Oh crap! I just now noticed I have lost track of how many hours of burn in I have on my dac. Oh well, I will just have to guesstimate when I reach 200 hours. I Finally have system stability and now enjoy audio nirvana. Peace....
  2. Hi John Thanks for the info, Can't be the Dac, Clint at W4S checked it out for me and he said it was working just fine. May I ask what Bios version you have installed on your R4e? Mine is 4004. Have you OC'd your CPU or have you left it stock? For some unknown reason the Dac will lose lock on whatever data rate currently playing after a short while. It's been very frustrating, PC passed all benchmark tests like Prime 95, Memtest86, IBT. I just noticed that Asus just released new Bios 5 days ago I'm going to give that a try. If you have any other ideas on what could be the culprit I would love to hear them. Oh and I did try other usb cables even a W4S usb cable with no success. I'm going to try using Fidelizer also to see if maybe a system process is causing my problems. Desperately seeking Stability.....
  3. I wish I had a Mac Mini I hear they sound great. My M/B does have a Optical output I could use but I really don't want to abandon my very expensive usb cable without trying all the options first...
  4. Hi All, It seems that my W4S Dac2dsdse does not want to play well with my Asus Rampage IV Extreme motherboard plugged directly into the back. So I was wondering will the SOTM tx-USBexp pcie usb card work with the W4s Dac? I'm a little hesitant to purchase the card since I heard the card would not work with the older Dac 2. Has anyone used this card to feed their Dac2se?
  5. Hi Robert, My Dac was sitting out in the open on top of my computer desk, So ventilation could not be the culprit. I do appreciate the input. I have no intentions of jumping the windows ship just yet, I was just expressing a little Apple envy due to all the software choices available to mac users. I agree that patience is warranted and to give the guys at W4S a chance to do what they do best. Since I cannot listen to the music talking about it is the next best thing.... Have a nice Day Kipp
  6. Thanks for the support guys, It's much appreciated... Hi Richard, At the time the problem manifested I was using JRiver MC 19 with ASIO 32bit 384Khz driver. The output mode was set to DSD X2. I read that others had used those settings quite successfully with no issues. I kinda went thru all the settings that were available, even 16 bit 44.1 PMC Wasapi event style output setting was to much for the Dac though it did play longer before failing at those settings. It seems that up sampling the audio had a more negative effect on the Dac. What did seem weird was the Dac would play longer in the morning when it was cooler where in the afternoon it would fail after just a few songs into the listening session. I wonder if heat to the USB board had an effect on how the Dac performed? You know I consider myself a die hard Pc guy but sometimes I think the grass is greener on the Apple OS side where it comes to audio. Especially the choices in players like Amarra Symphony, Bitperfect, and others. The PC side only has a few players really worth listening to. JRiver is the best player I have heard but It can be a bit buggy at times especially when it updates once or twice a week. Hopefully the guys at W4s can figure out what the issue is with my Dac quickly so I can get back to enjoying the music like yourself and other fellow owners.... Thanks for the Support Kipp
  7. Hi All, 19 hours of burn in and my listening sessions with my Dac2dsdse has come to a screeching halt, literally. For some unknown reason the dac refuses to stay locked onto the current data rate. It would cycle in and out of data lock and while doing so would emit static and a screeching high pitch tone. I tried everything I could think of to resolve this issue even hooking the Dac up to another computer. No luck!. I talked to Clint over the phone which he was very understanding and tried to help, He mentioned the usb cable issue that Richard was having with his Dac, could it be that simple? 20 minutes later. NO! The Dac is being very stubborn, So now the Dac is on it's way back to W4S for repair. The main reason for this post is I wanted to ask any of my fellow Dac2dsdse owners if they had any issues similar to mine? Not able to enjoy the music Kipp
  8. Hi All, My W4s Dac2dsdse has finally come home. The turn around was a tad longer than expected Thanks to the Rocky Mountain audio festival, but the wait was worth it. I'm very happy to say that the sound right out of the box is very impressive. Eight hours in and I can report the bass has so much more energy and punch, mids are very detailed and the upper frequency harshness that it's previous self had is gone, no more listening fatigue, I expect it's only going to get better from here as I get closer to the magic 200+ hours of burn in. Something I did not expect, My poorly made recordings that I could not listen to before the upgrade have greatly improved. I can actually enjoy them now. I do need to go back and EQ my headphones but That's a small price to pay for perfection. I'm very glad that I purchased this upgrade it has improved my modest system greatly. For those who would like to know what my system consists of I have a newly built Win 8 i7 3930k OC to 4.5 GHz water cooled computer that feeds my Dac2dsdse and powering my system is a Woo audio WA6se and plugged into the amp are Beyer T1's and Senn HD800's. I will try to report in as to what happens as I get closer to 200 hours. So, If you are like me a few weeks ago and unable to decide whether to get this upgrade, All I can say is Go For It!! you won't regret it..... Peace Kipp
  9. When I've had a hard day and need to mellow out a beer and Classical music does the trick, Pop when I'm going to a hockey game because that's what they play at the stadium, 70's, 80's and 90's Rock every chance I get and Country only if my dog died or when my girlfriend gets mad and dumps me....
  10. Thanks Eric, Oh and thanks for the DSD download info, I have bookmarked those for DL as soon as my Dac finds it's way home....
  11. Hi, This is my first post. I just recently heard of the upgrade for the W4S Dac2 and to my surprise after searching the net I was only able to find a few posts here and there, nothing that really dove into the details, and then I discovered CA. and ReShaman's thread. What a gem. I started on page one and by page three my Dac 2 was boxed up and on it's way to W4S for major surgery. I have to say I've enjoyed the posts on this thread though they can be a tad long at times, I guess that's what makes this thread a pleasure to read. I'm currently in audio hell waiting patiently for my baby to return to me hopefully any day now so I can experience audio nirvana like my fellow Dac2dsdse owners. I just wanted to say "Thank You" for the great information on the upgrade, Please forgive my grammar I'm not as good with words like some of my fellow posters.. I'm very excited to finally get a chance to hear the audio bliss you have so eloquently described in this thread.... Peace Kipp
