  1. Can all generations of the MC3+ USB be upgraded by firmware?
  2. Easier to fix than trying to figure out all the lights on the Mutec... and how does it sound?
  3. I think all of the Mutec outputs are live all the time. I have two DACs with one being coax from Mutec and one AES from Mutec. I can switch back and forth with no issues. That might point toward the KEFs or the Roon setting. Or perhaps my Mutec settings are different but I don’t think you can select the output.
  4. I leave my MC 3+ USB on all the time - partly because I have an external LPS for it and would have to unplug.
  5. Just a quick update. Thanks again for the suggestions. I got in a TC Electronics Level Pilot and it looks like it is just what I needed. I can now set the Adam F5 speakers at their 0db point and have the Audirvana volume at a reasonable level and then control the system volume with the level pilot. The Level Pilot is transparent as far as I can tell. As far as impressions of the system goes, the Adam F5 speakers are really impressive. First time I've really listened to speakers nearfield and it's pretty cool. The ART tweeter is really something. Electrostatic-like in its transparency and immediacy. The TEAC sounds great, but I'll need to do some comparisons with different filters and upsampling before I can be more definitive. Well-built and easy to use for sure.
  6. Thanks for the responses. First to correct a typo, the speakers are Adam Audio F5. wgscott, I've played with the dithering and volume control in Audirvana (still on free trial by the way) for two days now. I can only get a tiny bit of rotation on the volume before the sound is way too loud. And that is with the speaker volume at almost -infinity as well. The issue seems to be more related to the fact that the TEAC outputs 4V into powered speakers using balanced. RCAs cut that in half. Feel free to jump in with specific suggestions on settings in Audirvana in case I'm missing something. The Level Pilot sounds like exactly what I need. Balanced connections and the ability to attenuate the output post-DAC. From my reading, I'm not the only person who has run into this issue with powered speakers. I'll check back in after the Level Pilot arrives and I get it hooked up. Thanks again for the suggestions.
  7. Hello Computer Audiophiles! I come from a 2 channel "regular" audio background (Thorens TD-125/SME/Ortofon Black => VAC Avatar Super => Silverline Sonatinas with digital handled by Mac mini => Logitech Transporter) I found I wasn't listening to the big rig enough in the summer so I wanted to put together a desktop system. With some research I settled on the Adam F3 active monitors and ran directly into them from my mac mini. They sounded great. I added Audirvana and it got better still, although it is a little tricky figuring out the system volume etc. I wanted an external DAC and headphone out so after more research I have a TEAC UD-501. Hooked it up with balanced cables (switching from RCA) and USB last night and it seems like I get almost all volume or none. Maybe I can get a little troubleshooting from the folks here? As far as I can tell, I can't control the DAC output so either I have to do it on the active speaker or on the computer. I have to have them both almost to zero or I'll blast out the speaker. Seems like I've got some setting wrong somewhere. Any suggestions would be appreciated. THEN, I'll let you know how it sounds...
