  1. i did ge a chance to listen tothe Hegel DAC-- nice
  2. when you say here....meaning? I'm located in wash, dc
  3. not yet....still in info gathering stage, i'm in no particular hurry. one thing about that DAC it seemed to be very far north of 3K may be out of my budget, need to draw the line somewhere. thanks for recommendation. it's on the list
  4. Appears to be a solid recommendation-- thanks!!
  5. Arcam CD73. Yes, It could quite possibly be for sale.
  6. Thanks-- i plan on doing much research. thanks for pointing me in the right direction
  7. Thanks for response. So my budget- total for DAC and associated USB converter would be 3-4K. I was trying to keep DAC around 3K mark and then heard the Synthesis Matrix which cost $3600-- I'm willing to go that high if I get sound I want. The sound I'm after is to warm up the bright sound I have now. Bright isn't terrible but I think I can warm this set up a little. The Synthesis did sound great and was warm....I think it would be as strong contender. I listened to it against the Audio Note which was nice, but at $2900 not quite as warm and not quite as meaty. So that could justify the $700 difference. I think you are right (meaning my pea brain understanding)- I beleive place I listened to equipment was suggesting I go usb out of computer to a converter then into DAC ?
  8. Hi all, Brand new to the site and pretty new to the world of DAC's. I'm an old dinosaur who had been doing fine under a rock until my 8 yr old Arcam CD player died. I'm convinced that DAC is the way to go. I'm also in process of upgrading my computer to make this move. Computer wise I'll probably go with a basic PC laptop with: Processor 1.8 GHz 8032, RAM 4 GB DDR3, Hard Drive 500 GB (I'm told this should suffice)-- yes I'm a dinosaur. So my question (s). 1.) I have a MBL Integrated AMP and am running Dynaudio Excite x36 speakers and for now I'm utilizing a 3 yr old LG bluray player-- (it's fine for now). Everything sounds great, but somewhat on the bright side. I've listened to some DACS and am leaning to getting a tube DAC to warm things up. I've listened to Jolida, Audio Note and Synthesis (an Italian company) Matrix-- I think only DAC they make. They are a tube company that makes amps, etc.. The Sythesis sounds great- but it comes with a price tag -- $3600.00. Does anyone know much about this DAC and is this a good move to warm up my bright system? Also I gotta believe in this price range I'll have many options-- any suggestions? I noticed the Mytek on other threads- but I'm unfamiliar. 2.) In addition I'm being told to avoid a USB connection and utilize coax-- but apparently I have to go through another device? This part I'm really confused and uneducated about. Any help, input is welcome. Thanks in advance !!! nsboy
