  1. The cheap and cheerful tweak is to add Blue-tac adhesive putty between speaker and desk/stand to anchor them down. For $6.00 it's worth the price of admission. https://www.amazon.com/Blu-Tack-060968-Reusable-Adhesive-75g/dp/B001FGLX72
  2. The SKNR-sonic offers a whole room listening experience that promises to be more directly rewarding than anything currently on the market. Only $599,999.99
  3. Yep, looks good. RCA outs from the modi to the amp...don't forget to get a set. I think you would get a decent SQ upgrade with the IFi dsd but it is a few $ more. The modi is likely the weakest link in this chain. https://www.amazon.com/iFi-Nano-iDSD-DAC-Headphone/dp/B01N0DVG58/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1482310790&sr=8-2&keywords=ifi+dsd+nano Others here may have more hands on experience with both and may chime in.
  4. They are claiming - One 26 x 32 mm Airmotiv high-frequency folded-ribbon transducer What am I missing or what is this?
  5. Thanks Usery, good info. The ribbon was my main concern they seem to turn out either very right or very wrong...sounds like this application is the former. if the OP is looking for USB out the Schmitt Fulla 2 may be a consideration for the emotivas or other monitors without an included dac. It adds a usb dac, accessible/convenient volume control and headphone amp for another $99. Schiit Audio, Headphone amps and DACs made in USA.
  6. Looking here too, the Emotiva 4S are on my list. Haven't heard them but they are well reviewed and have a return policy. Anyone have these or heard them? https://emotiva.com/products/powered-monitors/speakers/airmotiv-4s
  7. Void of anything resembling an actual customer, many lonely sales people in these soon to be defunct hi-fi shops hop from forum to forum sowing seeds of discontent, desperately hoping readers will pay a visit and see if cables, suspension, or wampaloons can make an audible difference and praying they don't do any of this online. Back to watching the front door in quiet desperation, foot traffic in the mall is up with the holidays. We are running a holiday special on Quantum Bees, normally $1500.00 per hive...now $1299.00. If you would like your resistors, caps, fets & op-amps to sound like they're dripping in honey stop in for a demo. Disclosure Statemente: Quantum Bees will get agitated and likely sting with non-Krall playlists.
  8. Deadman with Neil Young sound track
  9. I had a Line 2 upgraded by Parts Connexion and thought it was well worth the cash spent. It felt like more bang for the buck than spending on a new unit. More options...just what you needed
  10. What if the argument changes from cost to time. Given, free of charge, a bag of respective PCBs, caps, resistors and heat sinks which circuit would be worth your time to DIY...the Vitus, Emotiva or the Archimago?
  11. It is a great story and sounds like a great friend...take your time here. If you feel you need to chase after a deal on the Martin Logans, it's likely a good indication to apply a some brakes. Done right...right room and amplification I've heard both sound thrilling but have often heard both sounding "not great" and often, with less than optimal set-ups. If if it were me, I would research and exhaust possibilities for great SET specific speakers in that price range first. Enjoy the process, they will still make speakers tomorrow and the day after.
  12. I work in consumer research. Anytime you are testing groups of people at the same time in the same room you can chuck the results. Any testing with a human element is flawed, you are just trying to minimize flaws as much as possible. I can't even imagine the expense of trying to get accurate results testing audio equipment. Who would pay for this? The BBC bank-rolled testing 40-50 years ago which was so long ago that improved methodology has most likely eclipsed any result, unless they got very lucky.
  13. How many new curse words did you invent in 24 hours? It all sounds too horrible, my sympathies
