  1. D'oh...

    Part two of THREE...

    Binding posts

There is only one set of binding posts on my Burson PP-100 amp. Most amps would allow you connect up a bananas and spades or bare wire on the same post.

I am using locking banana plugs from VALAB to bundle wires feeding the Stradas AND the sub. I use solid-core UPOCC copper (using a combination of 12 and 18 awg wires).

If you do take the plunge, let me know how it goes :-)

(be warned, breaking in the Stradas can test one's patience...)

  2. Part two of THREE...

I like the fact that Stradas are reasonably easy to drive - and don't seem to need huge amounts of power (even more so with the Strada 2, of course). Stradas have been said to play pretty happily with 29W tube amps as well as class D muscle amps. That kind of flexibility is handy... But perhaps that gives you too much choice? ;-)

Some suggest the Stradas/TR3 can be a little light in the lower midrange-upper bass region. I haven't heard the Ref 3.5 or others which are said to be better in this regard. I can't say I'm looking for improvement in this area. Perhaps having the Stradas on the wall and mounting the sub mounted on a board helps. So I wouldn't necessarily let that put you off (as long as you're willing to out in some time to fiddle...) ...

  4. Part one of two....

As we're drifting off-topic, I thought I'd message you instead.

Like I said, I haven't compared the Stradas or Burson gear to the best of what's out there. So I'd think my take on it is of limited value.

From my very limited experience, I think great sound can come from a very wide range of kit. I don't think you should feel too hemmed in by your choice of DAC (or DAC/preamp). I've heard some fabulous sound from a Lowther (Medallion) / 2A3 rig. There are no doubt many incredible speakers out there...

I really like the way the sound from the Stradas envelops you. With the sub dialled in, I find the sound to be very engaging in a much more visceral way than the Lowthers. The speakers are small, but the sound field isn't. The sound projects into the room in a way I haven't heard before (but again, my experience is limited..).

    ....

  5. One more question, is your amp two channel? Or do you drive both the main speakers and the sub off the same output terminals? Lastly, what's your overall impression of your Gallo setup? I assume it's a good match w/ the Burson stuff? Sorry for all the pestering I'm giving you, just like to dot all the proverbial "i's" and cross all my "T's" before dropping a good wad of money. Thanks.
  6. Thanks for the reply. Yes, the Conductor is one of the units I was looking at. I also am aiming for the Strada 2s and the newer TR3D subwoofer. I've also been checking out the BMCs PureDAC which can drive both outputs at the same time. Likewise w/ Wyred's mPre....it too can drive both outputs and I was hoping the Conductor could too. Oh well.
  7. Question for Odelay, are you driving your Gallo sub from the "DAC out" of your Conductor? If not, howare driving it?I would like to have a similar setup for speakers that you have. I'm a newby to this site and you get my first question.
