  1. Thanks for your reply. With regards to ripping CD's I've made it a habit of doing that as soon as I purchase them, that is when I do not buy them digitally. Regarding my budget I've already started to realize that $5000 is not a huge budget I would consider skipping the rear speakers to start with but even with that, it does still not leave a huge amount to play with depending on how far I go, which just adds to the confusion ...
  2. Hi All, I have just started to look into building a dedicated 5.1 home theater system for my PC which is kept in a small study. My budget is around $5000 and basically with so many options I'm confused at where to start and where to get the best bang for my dollar so to speak. I have a high end PC with a dedicated Sound Blaster Recon 3d sound card though am looking to upgrade that as well to a Sound Blaster ZxR. So far I am rather partial to the b&w 685 bookshelf style speakers for front and rear however again that is not set in stone and if anyone can suggest some cheaper better alternatives that would be great. At this stage this is basically all I have sort of decided on and have no idea on the AMP, DAC, center speaker or the sub woofer. For that matter do I even need a dedicated DAC ??? BTW the main purpose for this system is music and I am trying to build something that can handle deep base and strong vocals, think heavy metal and opera. Can anyone offer suggestions what other components / speakers would pair well with what I am trying to achieve. Thanks
