  1. You could consider a secondhand Oppo Sonica, Ebay often has a couple although prices have increased a little lately, I use one and its excellent both as a dac and a network attached dac, works flawlessly.
  2. Thanks stefano_mbp for your quick reply. The settings layout looks a little different to mine but the actual settings are similar so I will give these a go. Thanks again.
  3. Can someone please tell me what settings I need for the HQPlayer in order to play all files natively (including DSD) as at present files all play at 192khz. I'm using the player via an SOTM 200 and Windows 10. Thanks
  4. You don't need a link just remove the micro sd card and check on say a windows computer and you can see that the card is virtually full, I think this maybe a reason for some of the failures that occur with the new firmwares. I had many attempts to install these latest firmwares and all failed Having seen that the micro sd card was full I just swapped in another card 32gb and all went well first time using a manual installation from a direct download. I think SOTM should have warned us that this was a potential problem.
  5. Tried to download update still failed at around 50% so decided to burn a new image of firmware 5.2 to a new micro sd card. This seems to be a much better way of updating, all worked fine and didn't take as long. My only negative was the SOTM recommended USB Image program (link supplied by SOTM) only seems to recogize usb attached drives not micro sd card adapters which seems stupid to me as the SOTM firmware is installed on a micro sd card, luckily I had a sd card to USB adapter.
  6. Not sure if the latest firmware is still undergoing changes but for the last two days when I try to update my SOTM it indicates that the site is under maintenance so still unable to update.
  7. Tried twice both failed at around 50%. I beginning to lose patience with SOTM. Why in this day and age does it take so long as between 2 to 6 hours (info message when upgrading from SOTM) to update the firmware surely there's a better much quicker method.
  8. https://archimago.blogspot.com/2020/05/musingsmeasurements-netgear-nighthawk.html If you live in the UK you can purchase one from Scan Computers UK for around £48 link below https://www.scan.co.uk/products/8-port-netgear-s8000-nighthawk-gaming-and-streaming-advanced-gigabit-ethernet-switch
  9. Not sure if this will help but this what I use to setup JRiver, Download and install JRiver. Click Here for both Windows and Mac versions. Open JRiver and go to HELP/UPDATE CHANNELS and select STABLE Go to TOOLS/OPTIONS/MEDIA NETWORK. Click on USE MEDIA NETWORK TO SHARE… A NEW SCREEN WILL APPEAR. CLICK NEXT. Another new screen so click NEXT again. A new screen with “access key” will appear. Write this code down for future. It is case sensitive. Click NEXT again. A screen with “configure media network will appear. Select AUDIOPHILE 24 BIT and click finish. You should now be back in the main MEDIA NETWORK screen. Select ADD OR CONFIGURE DLNA SERVERS Under AUDIO make mode-ORIGINAL and format-24BIT. Under ADVANCED on this page select STEREO DOWNMIX Click on OK to return to the main TOOLS, OPTIONS, MEDIA NETWORK screen, and under ADVANCED make sure the following options are all selected: DLNA Server DLNA Renderer DLNA Controller Near the bottom of the page is another ADVANCED under VIDEO options. Click on it and put a check mark in DLNA and DLNA EXTRA. If you have a Direct Stream DAC then also select BITSTREAM DSD. Click OK. At this point you should be able to see your Bridge appear in the left hand column under Playing Now. Select your Bridge to play to it. Right click Bridge in Now Playing, select the last option, DLNA Controller Options, and select both Ignore Transport Events and Disable SetNext Support. More settings and library management. You are now back on the options page. Select LIBRARY AND FOLDERS in the left column. Make sure that RUN AUTO-IMPORT has a check mark in the box. Now click OK Now go to TOOLS/IMPORT and select CONFIGURE AUTO IMPORT and click on NEXT. At the top right click on ADD and browse to your Audio files that are either on your HD or an external drive connected to your Mac by USB or Firewire. [ you can select the whole drive or only the folders that you want JRiver to see.] select MODE and select INCLUDE THIS FOLDER…. Select AUDIO under IMPORT THESE FILE TYPES [not the others.] Click OK. The folder you selected should now be visible in the box under FOLDERS. Under TASKS, put a check mark in- build thumbnails, get cover art, update for external changes, fix broken links-YES, and write file tags when analyzing. CLICK FINISH. If your library is not already importing then go to TOOLS/IMPORT and select AUTO IMPORT AND THEN NEXT. THIS SHOULD LOAD YOUR LIBRARY.
  10. As per comments above seems to hang around 30% for some time time then fairly quickly completes. The kernel check and install also seems to take forever likewise the reboots in order to complete installation but very happy with sound. I would recommend whenever you do an update check your settings for whichever player you use eg MPD which I use as I find that it always changes one of the settings.
  11. No problem here updating to the new firmware although the updating progress does seem to be slow particularly around approx. 30% so be patient. I use the SOTM and MPD connected to a Windows 10 computer running JRiver 26 for playback from my external hard drive.
  12. I've been using the sotm 200 for around 18 months and was largely satisfied although some of the later firmwares have been causing me a few problems and I have become a bit dissatisfied with the sound so I thought I would try a different route and take the sotm out of the equation. Instead I used JRiver 24bit which I was using with the sotm and play directly using this via my usb cable connected to the server computer (latest rme driver installed) and then into my dac (ADI-2 DAC) and the sound improved substantially so I don't know whats gone wrong as I haven't change my network setup or cabling only my dac and of course the various firmware updates for the sotm. As it stands I will continue to use the dac directly connected to my computer as the sound is much more enjoyable to listen to. Has anyone else had similar experiences?
  13. I downloaded the latest update and installed it and all went fine, but when I tried to shut down the sotm using the browser control it doesn't shut down I tried many times but to no avail. This problem was present with last few updates but wasn't a problem with the earlier updates so can you please fix.
  14. I'm on 4.56 and the unit will not shut down properly via the SOTM browser menu which results in the ethernet lights on the SOTM constantly blinking. This has been a problem for me on the last couple of firmware updates, anyone know if this can be corrected?
  15. Updated from 4.52 to 4.54 last night, no problems with install had to change mixer value only, plays well using both MPD/JRiver and HQPlayer, browser looks a bit different but loads marginally faster than previous firmware although still not as fast as some of the much earlier firmwares. Sotm seem to be getting there with this firmware after the terrible problems previously.
