Perfect Eloise! That's exactly the info I was looking for. I suppose I could have asked the question better by simply asking for recommendations for a cheap DAC that would be worth in investment to improve my audio experience.

I'm working on opening a small retail business, and am planning on building a Windows 7 computer for my office to run QuickBooks on. I will probably be using a straight up Intel I7 or I5 motherboard. I will be driving a pair of Audioengine A2's with this box. Should the on board audio work OK for this application? I am pretty knowledgeable about hifi, and even used to do live sound reinforcement for bands, but I have a complete blind spot for computer audio interfaces. Sorry about my total noobishness in this area.
