1. Hi ... How can The Rolling Stones albums be displayed in artist view under "R" rather than "T" (without having to change the artist name)? Thanks
2. Thanks Allan ... I'm at work ATM so will be able to try your suggestions this evening ... Yes it looks like some great software and I can definately see it's potential.

I'm quite inexperienced with setting up new software for my computers. My previous computer music was handled by iTunes on a MacBook Pro. That was a long way from perfect but I could generally make it behave according to my wishes ... not so JRiver on my Windows laptop. I realise that JRiver will be a far better solution in the long run ... but it's obviously going to require a lot more computer savvy than I currently have. The issues: Several albums that I have recently imported are displayed as a single group titled "Multiple Artists". That's fine in that those individual albums are indeed by multiple artists ... but this behaviour is not consistent ... some other multiple artist albums are displayed alphabetically (by main artist or the first artist mentioned) within the main library group. Which is how I would prefer things to happen. I just find it a whole lot easier to visually scan all of my music in a single display of albums listed alphabetically by artist. I could control this quite easily in iTunes simply by renaming the album artist/artists field inside iTunes ... or even renaming via the Mac operating system. Which brings me to another issue: Renaming outside JRiver via Windows 7 does not seem to be recognised ... and ... When trying to rename artist/album within JRiver (right clicking on the album) the rename option is blanked out. Any assistance would be most gratefully accepted. Cheers, Greg ... Who is on an incredibly steep learning curve ... so please be gentle.

* I've posted this on the JRiver forum as well *
4. Thanks Firedog ... Downloaded it earlier today ... Initial impressions very favorable
5. Hi all, I can only see 3 in the app store ... Any experiences/recommendations? ... One is $10+ !! Thanks
6. Just having a look around now at reviews ... thanks for the link
7. Absolutely nothing wrong with Australian postage ... especially when the price of the product is on par
8. Crisnee: Thanks for the welcome. Yes ... HD ... High resolution stuff. I'm pretty sure the Meridian Explorer that some people are talking about here samples up to 192K. I'm a long way from actually parting with my hard earned dosh for one of these things, but at this early stage in the research trail I'm leaning towards "future proofing" as much as possible .... Even if the initial financial hit hurts a little. And I may be naive, but assuming upgraded quality cables and connectors, I would hope my NAD/Krix/Grado kit could do justice to a HD signal. Firedog and Zakus: I'm not fussed about paying international postage ... I'm just a bit nervous about spending as much as $400 AUD on an item of audio equipment I can't audition in the flesh. Maybe I need to dream-up a good excuse to visit Sydney or Melbourne soon. Musicophile: Thanks for the welcome and links ... my bookmarks folder is getting mighty crowded.
9. Thanks for the response John ... Just had a surf around for info. on the Explorer ... Some good reviews ... And available in Australia too, but not in my town unfortunately. Can you give a sense of the differences between Explorer and Dragon fly?
10. Thanks Zakus ... Very useful info ... PM sent
11. Thanks for the replies people ... Nombedes: Yes, some sort of portable DAC is on my radar ... The thing is, I've never heard one so it's hard to know whether the expense would justify the perceived improvement. Would it really be a black and white, knock me over with a feather difference? There are a couple of excellent hifi stores in the city and I plan to pay them a visit soon for a demo. I'm sure we can have most popular items shipped down here. Rates are pretty hefty from the USA though ... not so bad from Europe and Asia. Barry: I'm all for "little or no financial outlay" ... Great article ... I've got some experimenting to do. Flatmap: Yes those Dragonflys look like the goods ... And the price is well within budget. We travel a lot with the MacBook Pro/headphones so a portable DAC would be excellent for that. Thanks again folks ...
12. Hi all, My name is Greg and this is my first post here. I'm a complete newbie to computer audio. I have loads of questions, and after some initial surfing around the web I'm convinced that this looks like a good place to find some well considered answers. For now I'll just introduce myself, but over time I intend to post away in the subject appropriate forums. I've never been an audiophile ... more the enthusiastic music appreciator. Up until fairly recently I was quite content with my standard definition CD collection played on quite a modest but serviceable hifi ... then I discovered laptops, iTunes and iDevices. Currently I'm running three discreet and relatively low tech digital file based systems. At the core of those systems is an iTunes library consisting of ripped CD albums (AIFF). I have not to date added any extra audio software. No networking or shared server, just a duplicated separate library for each system. There is not a DAC in sight. In the lounge room my beautiful large Krix bookshelf speakers and entry level '80s era NAD receiver are hooked-up to a very basic HP Mini notebook PC running Windows 7 Starter and iTunes ... nothing else. Midi set to 44/16. When I say "hooked-up" I mean straight from the headphone jack of the notebook to the RCA inputs of the receiver using K-Mart quality cables. Playback is controlled remotely using my iPhone 4S and the Apple remote app. There are also a pair of smaller Krix bookshelf speakers in our main living area that are hardwired into the same receiver. I just manually switch them in or out as required. For stealthy late night private listening I just plug my Grado Labs headphones straight into the headphones jack of our MacBook Pro running OSX 10.6.8 and iTunes ... and a trillion other bits and pieces. It's totally maxed out with software and data ... It's the family's computing workhorse and copes pretty well considering the abuse. We do get the occasional visit from the rotating rainbow of course. All data including the iTunes library is backed up regularly on an external USB hard drive. The Mac's Midi is also set to 44/16. The Subaru's standard audio system gets fed an ever changing selection of the same ripped CDs from the iPhone 4S via blue tooth. And that's about it ... I'm happy enough with the car system ... It's nowhere near a perfect listening environment and I'm never "listening critically" to it anyway. But I am looking to improve the sound quality of the two house based systems. Unfortunately I don't have much of a budget to play with. A few hundred dollars here and there over time is about all I'll be prepared to throw at it. The existing components will all need to be kept in service, and just to add to an already "big ask" I'd like to be able to treat myself to the occasional downloaded HD album. If anyone has any straight-up suggestions, tips or even any cold hard realities to pass on I'd love to hear them. And finally, if anyone has bothered to read this far, I apologise for the life story ... It won't happen again ;-) Cheers PS: Hi to any other Aussies on the forum
