  1. The Decco2 is an integrated amp, too, though, right? Or are there various models that share the same name? Peachtree's website shows the Decco2 as being able to power two speakers, and if that's the model that I saw before it sounded great doing that too. Just wondering if they made a preamp only version or...
  2. As a VSX-1124 owner, I had issues streaming high resolution files (96/24 and above) to the receiver as DLNA through Jriver Media Center - in this example I am doing no transcoding, and both the server PC (running Jriver) and VSX are wired into the same 1GB capable router. The VSX plays these same files no problem if I use a USB drive, and the Jriver PC can send the same files to various other DLNA devices I have around the home, so I wonder if it maybe has to do with its 10/100 ethernet port? Either way, since there are many other ways for the VSX to play hi-res files, its not a deal breaker, and I LOVE how it sounds decoding bitstream DTS-HD versus the mid-level Denon it replaced. I'm a sucker for Sabre chip decoding. I don't know much about the ASUS O!Play but if it has HDMI out or optical/coax you can still use the internal DACs of the VSX to decode, and I don't know your exact speakers but I can get the new ELAC B6s to get to damaging levels if I wanted and I know those are relatively demanding for their size (87db).
  3. I don't know the last time because I rarely purchase from them; I've certainly followed threads about such releases before, thought it would be a fine place to ask this question considering this is an HDTracks "support" section of the forum, and the other posts are all about the same question. Didn't think I'd get the response that I should buy the record myself, run it through software, then request a refund if I can prove its not worth it? Don't see that suggestion on any of the other threads, but I appreciate the Acoustic Sounds info, as I shop from them much more often.
  4. Um, yeah bud, I know how they can get 96/24, I'm an audio engineer. My question may not have been very clear, I'm just asking if this is actually 96/24 or upsampled from the RCA CD quality files, this is HDTracks we are talking about.
  5. How is this 96/24? Same sessions as the RCA CD box?
  6. Too bad its so awfully compressed, songs are good otherwise. Will have to wait until the vinyl comes out to see if its a different master...
  7. Its the Apple branded dongle, got it from Amazon but its the same price pretty much anywhere. I don't know if there's a different one that is as small and cheap, but there are some thunderbolt -> full size dock adapters that have firewire in them as well. Can't vouch for them, but they have a lot more utility if you're looking for things like ethernet, usb, etc... (Example) Amazon.com: OWC Thunderbolt 2 Dock, 4K Support, Dual Thunderbolt 2, USB 3.0, HDMI, FW800, Ethernet: Computers & Accessories
  8. I also have one of Apple's Thunderbolt -> Firewire adapters, am using it with a Lavry ADC->Focusrite Saffire Pro (via AES) and can tell no difference in quality between recordings from my older Mac and the newer one with Thunderbolt.
  9. Came to post this, but keep in mind some modern receivers have "DIRECT" and "PURE DIRECT" modes ... for example on my pioneer "PURE DIRECT" completely untreats the source signal, so 2 channels from my phono preamp only go out through L and R... the "DIRECT" mode will use the .1 subwoofer channel based on my crossover, but will ignore any EQ settings I have on other inputs, this is what I personally use when playing vinyl in my 5.1 setup.
  10. Was literally about to buy a pair of Klipsch RB 51 II before seeing this coverage, now I have to wait? Woe is me...
  11. Just wanted to share this article whose title may belie its true argument, as it shares too many parallels with the "MP3 IS A-OK" group of journalists and 'people on the street' ... I don't want to paste the whole article here but here's a good little piece (excuse the language, but that's how the modern snarkers tends to write)... Cheap Wine Sucks: A Manifesto "But then, there’s this statement from the 2008 study, about tasters “preferring the cheaper wine unless [they’d] undergone wine training.” Uhhh, I’m sorry, maybe I was like bizzy reading a book—but is there something wrong with appreciating an object or an experience more because you have a better understanding of it? How many of us grew up eating way shittier vegetables than we eat now? Have we been “trained” to like organic tomatoes, and does that make us full of shit? Does the fact that it’s way more fun to watch football if you understand what the fuck a first down is make football the wine of sports?"
  12. Did they present with a subwoofer or just 2.0? Saw some pictures on Stereophile's blog but not of the full setup...
  13. Yes, if you are saying "digital" to you is only Coax or Opt, you can convert from HDMI to those here... HDMI® Audio Converter - Monoprice.com or here ... HDMI to HDMI VGA SPDIF 5 1CH RCA 1080p Digital Multi Channel Audio Decoder DSP | eBay I've always wondered how nice the multi-channel analog out ones are but don't have a multichannel analog input amp to test them out.
  14. Well, if you choose PCM over HDMI it is most likely downsampling/resampling the SACD layer to 176/24 or 88/24, arguably better than the CD quality 44/16 layer - this is how it worked on my ps3 with SACD playback at least, a high-resolution stream of 176 appeared on my receiver. Anyone else correct me if I'm wrong, it may also be player specific, which unit are you using?
  15. Debut Products These look outstanding, but I wish there was a mailing list or something to get updates...
