  1. I'm another one who has been bothered by the intermittent problem of A Plus halting playback close to the end of a track ever since upgrading to version 3. Earlier today, I trashed all the A Plus library files per the guidance given by RunHomeSlow on page 88 of this topic. So far, so good, and it's a relief. A logical solution that I completely overlooked, so I'm glad to have come across RHS's post.
  2. A big thanks, flattop. AppCleaner didn't get the A+ folder in Application Support (I wonder why--that would seem like a primary target), and after I deleted those files, A+ ran normally again. As far as designating a folder on a drive attached to another computer as A+'s library, I tried again and this time had no problem. The only complication appears to be that A+ requires manual syncing for this arrangement, which for me is a minor inconvenience. So, whatever happened the first time through must have been an aberration. Jayson
  3. I've used A+ for several years. I just installed A+ on a Mac Mini 2.4 Core 2 Duo that I just purchased. The OS is El Capitan. For the first time, I was trying to see if I could set A+'s library folder to a folder on an external hard drive attached to another Mac, an iMac, on my ethernet LAN, rather than to a folder on a local drive. A+ crashed when I tried to do this, so I guess the answer is no. But as my first question, I'd like to ask for confirmation that this is not possible. My immediate issue is that following this event, I cannot get A+ to run. When A+ crashed, I got a "Problem Report for Audirvana Plus" window telling me that 'Audirvana Plus quit unexpectedly' and giving me the options of sending a report to Apple or reopening the application. Choosing Reopen immediately loops me back to the same Problem Report window. If I launch A+ again, the same Problem Report immediately appears right after I complete the process of loading my license file. I have uninstalled A+ using AppCleaner and reinstalled a fresh copy, but launching A+ after the fresh reinstall produces exactly the same result. I have used Disk First Aid and shut down and started the Mac back up, including clearing the PRAM, before reinstalling and launching A+, but that has made no difference. I'm not sure where to go from here. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jayboard
  4. Update: Never Mind. I would delete my post if I could. It was A+'s database files that were the problem. I had dragged them out of the Application Support folder into a folder on the Desktop but hadn't actually put them in the Trash. Once I dragged them to the Trash, A+ allowed me to start afresh with an empty library. ----------------- Shortly after adding a collection of music into A+ 2's library, A+ stopped launching properly in this user account. The main window comes up blank and gray, except for some of the playback controls showing at the top. A "loading library" message is displayed for a few seconds and then goes away, while the window remains blank. Clicking anywhere in the menu bar at top causes the application to quit and show a problem report. I have deleted the plist file and A+'s data base files and uninstalled and reinstalled the program, but there has been no change in what happens when I launch the program in this user account. A+ continues to launch and work properly in other accounts on this computer. Can anyone suggest how to clean up whatever mess there is in this account that is causing problems for A+? Thanks, Jayson
  5. I am having a very similar issue. A+ 2.2 won't play through the Airport Express that feeds my hifi system. Neither will A+ 1.5. iTunes plays fine through the AE (I don't have iTunes simultaneously with A+.) In the past I've used A+ 1.5 extensively to play through the AE, from a different computer. I just started using a new iMac 21.5" i5, so I don't know why there would be an issue. I've only used A+ 2.2 for the last couple of days. I thought that there might be something obvious I'm missing, but I'm not finding it. For now, I am leaving A+ set to built-in output and using Airfoil to get the music to my system.
  6. I didn't think of trying Airfoil. I have it. I just have never thought of using it to supplant Airplay when Airplay was available. It turns out that the problem I was having wasn't Airplay, since as soon as I reinstalled A+, Airplay playback drops disappeared. (That doesn't mean that A+ was the necessarily the problem, either; mysteries abound in these complex systems.) But I'll play around with Airfoil, anyway... A new comparison to mess around with. Anyway, A+ sounds good!
  7. Sound idea, Jud, not sure why I didn't think of it when I uninstalled. But anyway, so far the problem has not shown its ugly head since I reinstalled 1.5.6. Made it all the way through a 25 minute Mahler movement and a side of Little Feat without incident. I'm only using A+'s playlist mode and will stick to that for a few days before taking iTunes Integration mode for a shakedown cruise. When I was auditioning A+, I switched among different modes and states a lot -- iTunes v Playlist, Airplay v built-in audio-out -- and I noticed A+ had a hard time keeping up. Maybe some internal file got corrupted and started interfering with playback. Anyway, I'll post what I find out.
  8. After trying out A+ for a few days, I purchased a license today. Although I had experienced some fussiness in getting A+ to work properly with Airplay and iTunes, I thought the software made wonderful improvements in the sound for the price, and I wanted to support continued development of the product as well as enjoy the higher fidelity. Unfortunately, now I am experiencing the regular dropping of playback in mid-song that others have reported, and the software is basically unusable. (The buzz that came through my loudspeakers when playback dropped away was a little troubling, too.) This problem occurs no matter whether I am using A+ with iTunes or in direct playlist mode. It has survived numerous application restarts and computer restarts and other virtual equivalents of giving the unit a rap on the side. I'm pretty sure this problem arrived with 1.5.6, because I updated the program to that version just this morning before purchasing the license, and I don't think I ran into this issue when I was auditioning the program during the previous couple of days. I did have problems getting A+ to connect with Airplay, and I didn't like that when A+ finished a playlist, a buzz came through my speakers, but I don't recall playback quitting in mid-stream. ...Certainly not with the predictable regularity that is happening today. I haven't yet tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, but maybe I'll try that next. Hope to get this solved -- I was really enjoying the quality of playback.
