    HQ Player

Hi, unfortunately this does not solve the problem on my computer. I also experienced, that since 4.14.0 HQPlayer is not running on my WS 2019 Core version anymore. Additionally, I tried it on WS 2019 GUI as well as on Windows 10, which are installed in parallel on the same computer. With all OS versions the behavior is the same: Version 4.13.0 works, version 4.14.0 does not even start. I know have learned, that a requirement for HQPlayer is AVX2, which is not supported on my audio computer, which is pretty old (i7 3rd generation). I checked it with HWInfo. AVX is supported, AVX2 not. My question: Is AVX2 a new requirement or have I just been lucky that it worked before? Btw. - I also tried it on my new Desktop PC with a newer AMD CPU and on this PC HQPlayer runs without problems. Best regards Matthias

    HQ Player

I'm starting to really love the Client 😊 At first I was unsure, if I could have any use of it, but now I understood the benefit for me. I do all my audio processing on computers, which are outside of my listening room. And I use a Windows tablet for remote controlling the audio applications. So a windows client which remotely controls my HQPlayer from this tablet makes perfect sense for me. I use Roon, HQPlayer and AcourateConvolver. Until now I can't do without any of these applications. Roon gives me the best user experience of all music players. HQPlayer has the most sophisticated upsampling. AcourateConvolver is best for easily switching between different room correction filters and has interesting additional features. All three allow to adjust the volume inside of the remote application. But from my point of view the handling of the volume control in Roon and as well in the AcourateConvolver web frontend is inconvenient. The new HQPlayer client basically offers the best approach for me. If I had a wish free, I would ask for a volume control button/slider which would be a bit more prominent, means a little bigger. When using Roon to feed HQPlayer, there is plenty of unused space in the Client (no Album Cover, title etc.) ans some buttons without function. I'd prefer to use more space for the basic functions, especially the volume control, which would make them easier accessable with a quick gesture. Best regards Matthias

  4. Yes, that's true. But this feature can easily be disabled. When including the link in my post, the forum software automatically chose the display text "Energy-Efficient Ethernet Evolves Networks" instead of the URL or something like 'Intel I210T1'. It was not my intention to highlight the energy efficiency feature. Btw - of course I cannot guarantee that changing the network adapter improves every system. My recommendation based on my personally experiences would be to look at the network infrastructure first, if you want to integrate Dante in an existing network. I think, my most successful measure was to replace the switch and to configure it like recommended on the Focusrite webpage. Perhabs it is interesting to know, that my old switch had QoS features too, but it was not possible to configure the DSCP values in detail. And this was exactly what improved the performance and stability most.
  5. I'm using AcourateConvolver as XOver for 3-way-speakers and 3 subwoofers. Filters are developed with Acourate. Great software!
  6. Thanks Joel This is the ethernet adapter I bought: Energy-Efficient Ethernet Evolves Networks When I still had lateny problems in my network I was considering to buy the RedNet PCI-Card. But this card is really expensive and so I tried it first with the above mentioned adapter in the hope that it makes a difference to the onboard ethernet adapter.
  7. Here you find a tutorial for setting up a switch for RedNet. This might probably work for Ravenna too.
  8. Great to see that more and more of you guys are interested in AoIP and the Rednet products I bought my D16 AES about 3 months ago, so perhaps the time has come to report my experiences. Other than the majority, I really have the need for a multi channel solution. I'm using AcourateConvolver as an Active XOver for 2x3 way + 3 subwoofers, what means, that I need to transfer 9 channels of output. I'm using Roon as a player, HQPlayer for changing the sample rate to 96kHz an AcourateConvolver for convolving (XOver and room correction). When I initially installed the Rednet D16 in my network I had many problems with that configuration. To make it clear - transferring 2 channels of audio at any sample rate had never been an issue at all in my configuration. But 9 channels of 96/24 had been a different thing. The latency in my system was sometimes exceeding the upper limit of 10ms resulting in dropouts. And there was no stability in the connection. Sometimes it worked, sometines not. The first measure was to replace the onboard ethernet interface by a special Intel Ethernet-Server-Adapter. This improved the average latency, but the latency still was not stable. The next change was to replace my US Robotics switch by an Netgear GS724T, which is one of the recommended ones on the Focusrite Webpage. I had the opportunity to get a used one very cheap so there was no risk of misinvestment for me. I configured it like described on the Focusrite Webpage and this was the crucial improvement. I now have an average latency to the RedNet device of about 2.5ms with no spikes anymore. What I also experienced is, that the system responsiveness of the source computer can influence the dante latency too. As a convolving computer can produce real heavy load, the next measure was to optimize the system throughput and responsiveness by experimenting with the software 'process lasso'. I got some very interesting findings with that (AMD FX processors are not ideal for heavy floating point calculations), but this is a different thing. Another problem I was facing was, that HQPlayer denied to work together with DVS. This seems to be solved with the new beta version 3.14. For the time being I helped myself by using a Raspberry Pi with HQPlayer NAA, feeding a physical input of the RedNet D16. but of cause this was not the intention. I'm really happy that my configuration now works. I was able to banish all the computer stuff out of the linving room into a server rack in the cellar. What I really love with Dante, is that I now can completely seperate my playback equipment from the measuring equipment. If I want to re-calibrate my system, I can connect the microphone on any computer, connect it to the dante network, and configure the routing with the dante controller. Especially Dante Via makes a holistic system out of your network and its devices. How it sounds? At least as good as before when I was using an AES soundcard (I tried different ones). As it took me a while to get it running properly, an A/B test was not possible. But I have less noise now, because my computer with its fans is far away from my listening place. Best Matthias
  9. Unfortunately HQPlayer refuses to work with the Dante Virtual Soundcard ASIO driver on my system. I tried it on two different systems, both the same behavior (Windows 10 & Windows 8.1). The behavior is similar to what happens, if you chose a sound device, which is currently not attached to your system. I tried it in both modes, ASIO and WDM. Regards Matthias
  10. Hi tranz, like mentioned before, I do not belong to the company XiVero, so I cannot answer you this question. However - I'm afraid, that they will not fulfill your wish as XP is an expired OS. Perhabs you'd like to ask them by yourself in the XiVero forum ? Cheers Matthias
  11. I'm not sure, if I understand your problem. The VST plugin does not contain the complete Musicscope application. It just connects to a running Musicscope instance. To get it running with jRiver, you basically have to install the plugin into jRiver Start the normal Musicscope application Start the VST-TCP/IP-Server in the Musicscope preferences menu (the little wheel in the upper right corner) activate and start the VST plugin it in the DSP-Studio press the 'Select' button in the Musicscope VST preferences. If you now start an audio track in jRiver and set MusicScope into the play mode, it should work. You find a step by step instruction here if you scroll down a little bit. For jRiver you have to use the VST 2.4 plugin. Be sure that no other DSP effects are enabled in the DSP studio, otherwise the audio signal might be modified severly ;-)
  12. Hey all, I got another great news about MusicScope: A vst-Plugin is now available in different versions I tried the Windows - VST 2.4 (32 bit) version and it works fine with jRiver Media Center V20. I had a discussion with Stephan from Xivero and he agreed, that vst-Plugins are not only interesting for professional DAW users but also for hifi enthusiasts, because you can include them in audio players, like e.g. foobar or jRiver. I'm really happy with this new feature. By using it in jRiver I can now really combine my perfect listening experience with a highly professional visualisation. Cheers Matthias
  13. Good news: https://www.xivero.com/blog/musicscope-release-notes/
  14. Hi tranz, 32 Bit WAV is definitely planned. There are already lots of exisiting VST solutions on the market. MusicScope is dedicated to the HiFi enthusiasts, who do not need a full-blown DAW but are interested in an detailed analysis of there music collection. So a VST solution is not planned. Regards Matthias
