  1. I'm looking for a DAC to use with my SB Touch and later a computer. I prefer a touch of warmth but still with excellent detail and soundstage. My other electronics are Ayre pre and power amp, Harbeth C7es3. My other consideration is the W4S Dac1 or 2. I'd appreciate any input from someone that has heard, used or compared these 2 Dacs. Thanks John
  2. OK..I know I want to go Mac, the DAC end of it I can handle (Ayre or Wavelength) I've been reading a lot of the forums and seem to be getting more confused. Here's what I have and want... - I have a high res 2 channel audio system that consists of Ayre electronics, vinyl playback and Harbeth Speakers. - I want to build a "reasonably" priced server with the main objective being sound quality. Of course I want to do it as cheap as possible, but I'd rather do it right the first time and enjoy the music for years instead of tweaking and upgrading all the time. I am tech savy. - I thought I wanted a Mac Mini (and that still may be the right choice???) but reading about all the upgrading and tweaking it needs to sound it's best has me wondering if there's a better choice of computers that's more turn key? - What format do I use to rip CD's ? What connections to the HD's and DAC? etc. If you were me...what would you be buying?? Thanks in advance.
  3. Hello to all, first, I'm new to this but am reading as much as I can to get started. I currently have a nice 2 channel setup that consistes of both CD and LP playback sources. I'd like to be able to get all/most of my LP's onto a computer/server that I can access from the listening chair via my laptop (not a must, but nice). I'd also like to be able to select 2 or 3 "albums" for play from the server to play thru my current system while I sit and work or listen. I'm technical, but have no idea how best to do this, what hardware and software i need, or if it's possible. I welcome all suggestions and comments. Am I thinking correctly on this? or is there a better way to do it? Guess i should add that I'd like to build a computer based system for a reasonable amount of money. John
