  1. You're welcome. As for the deliberate added distortion, it's just another tone that guitarists use. It's not the kind of distortion you might be thinking of like a speaker at its limits or an amplifier at clipping. It's not like that at all.
  2. I agree with the crappy mic bit. It's just the built-in mic on the camera, and yes, it was overloaded, adding much of its own distortion to the sound, but only when the guitarist was playing those loud riffs. And yes, a lot of those effects pedals are designed to do just that, add distortion. That's why he was referring to some of the settings as "lead", and some as "rhythm", or "DIRTY rhythm". DIrty meaning distortion. This can also be achieved by over-driving the tubes in the head amps. Or I suppose with some of the newer, solid state head amps, there's something in there to add that tube distortion sound. Probably a DSP or something.
  3. Just saw this now. What a shame. He was an inspiration to me. Not only have I designed and built many loudspeakers over the years because of him, but also shared several emails with him over the years. A very generous and down to earth gentleman. He will be missed.
  4. I don't understand the point behind this thread, its title and the video. One has absolutely nothing to do with the other. The guitar rig has a bunch of tone altering electronics going into mic'ed amps that are cranked up to "11" on a stage. Naturally, you're going to be getting tons of hiss, buzz, hum, crackle, etc, etc with that type of setup. It's the exact opposite of what you want in a home hifi system. I've heard the differences between stock basic cables and quality aftermarket (audiophile) cables. And judging from the photos of the some of the members' systems on this forum, they have to. So posting a thread like this which I imagine you're trying to convince us that cables don't matter, I'm afraid you might be preaching to the wrong crowd.
  5. If you're into that sort of thing. I'm not since I only have something like maybe 10 SACD's. All I ever use it for is a DAC with its balanced outputs into the Halo P5.
  6. Not to spark up an old thread, but it shouldn't be that difficult for these companies to do gapless streaming. My first streamer was a brand new $600 Marantz NA6005, and it did gapless from Tidal and whatever else I had running. What pissed me off is that I went shortly after and spent more than double that on a brand new Oppo 105D, and it DOESN'T do gapless. How stupid is that?! But anywho. It shouldn't be difficult or expensive for these companies to have gapless playback.
  7. Anybody?... It also never plays an album all the way through either. Tried two different known good routers and now even wired directly with brand new CAT6 cable.
  8. Is it just me or is Tidal no longer allowing albums to be played in "repeat" mode on the Aries? I have the latest versions of firmware and DS. I used to play an album over and over for however long I wanted, but now it only plays once and stops. I've been playing the same album for the past 15 hours from my NAS, so I know it's not the Aries.
  9. Now how's that for customer service! Just as an update, I just got in the iFi iPower and installed that a few minutes ago. I don't have any time to listen to it now, but will tonight... Hopefully. I'll give some initial impressions then. One thing I can say now though, it is a well built, solid little wall wart. It's the perfect match for the Recovery.
  10. Really, even though you quoted specific parts of my post? Hmm... Not that it matters much. I just prefer the end results the WW cables give me in my system. They meld well with the equipment and let the music flow through without getting in the way. Whatever works for me may not work for others, and that's perfectly fine. I have noticed quite a bit of favoritism towards these Curious Cables which I've never even heard of before until a short while ago. If and when I feel a little adventurous, I might try something from them out. Until then, I'll stick with what I've got.
  11. I'm certainly not saying that Wireworld cables are the best thing out there, but after using cables from the likes of Transparent Audio, Cardas, Kimber, Straightwire, Audioquest, Space & Time, MIT, and I'm sure a few others, I've settled on a full loom of Wireworld cables for my system, and couldn't be happier. Like I say about all things audio, it's all about synergy and personal taste. Just my 2 cents.
  12. Ah, a non-curated thread. If you want to be a curator, then go work at a museum. I don't have any experience with other USB cleaners or isolators, just the W4S RUR. There may be others out there that are better, but I'm quite pleased with the results I'm getting from my RUR. It's got well over 100 hours on it, and the new 12" Wireworld USB that replaced the stock W4S 6" USB, it now has over 50 hours. I like what the RUR has done and is still doing for my system, others may not. In the end, it's all about system synergy and personal taste.
  13. I haven't had a chance to really sit down and listen to it since installing the WW USB, but from a couple quick listens, things seem to be getting better throughout, not just both extremes.
  14. Cheap feeling? I thought the little guy was rather stout feeling myself. And I can't imagine how the input could have gotten broken plugging and unplugging a USB cable from it. On that note, I replaced the stock 6" USB cable with a 12" Wireworld Ultraviolet USB this afternoon. Seems to have cleaned up the extreme top end a bit, and possibly a bit tighter bottom end. Other than that, no huge difference.
