  1. I wasn't thinking about doing an Audio A-B comparison. I was going to compare the specs and use the on-board audio if it was the same or better. Given the SoundBlaster add-on card is 5 years old, I figured for sure it was slower / etc. It used to be that cheaper on-board audio used the processor and was really basic. That's probably not true anymore given the way silicon has gone. I was looking for a program that would give me specs like max width - 16-24-32? - max number of voices [? is that a spec?] etc. For audio cards I don't even know what specs to look for. I see that one of the cards does 24bit 48ks/s [but don't they all by now? Even the old one should do that, right?] What are the other relevant specs to look for? I'm doing Fraps video mixing on this machine, but that's not really dependent on the sound card and I only use 2.1 sound. Thanks, ww
  2. I recently upgraded a circa 2009 Alienware system - Creative PCI-e SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio - with a new MB with a RealTek onboad audio chip. So which is better? There are lots of sites that compare CPUs, GPUs, etc. Are there sites that compare Audio cards? Are there programs - free - that tell me exactly which audio card I have and what it's capabilities are? Sort of like CPU-z for audio cards? I'd like to use the best of what I have and retire / turn off the other one. Thanks, ww
