  1. I think it is a matter of taste. I sometimes find DSD a bit warmer but on the other hand flac is maybe more clear. See which format you prefer. These free comparison files are excellent for that purpose https://www.soundliaison.com/.
  2. Great review in hifi critic: This is about as simple a recording as you’re ever going to hear: two musicians, one microphone and each track performed live, straight to DXD recording – and it’s totally enchanting…all that spontaneity comes over in spades in this set, which has the usual Sound Liaison recording quality, plus that unmistakable sense of two musicians just bouncing off each other, improvising and making the shape of the songs up as they went along. This is as live as it gets, with a real "in the room with the musicians" impression.' —Andrew Everard, Hifi Critic
  3. I have started to appreciate Melody Gardot more on her later albums. Her singing style has a certain sameness to it but on the later albums the songs fits that way of singing better imo as on the album mentioned here.

  5. Got the CD it last night. We listened to it from start to finish only getting up to get a refill. Fantastic way to spend the evening. I advise new listeners to dim the lights and if possible listen to the whole album as if it was one long song or as if watching a movie with your ears as she suggest on her BandCamp Site . The small instrumentals combining the songs works like magic or is it voodoo? That low bowed bass is almost scary! Personally I love her way of singing and how she gives meaning to the lyrics and she and her band has given new life to these timeless Robert Johnson songs. Best album of the year for me so far. Looking forward to experiencing it again if it will be available from Native DSD or Sound Liaison in DXD. Carmen calls the album a SOUND LIAISON audiophile recording so I guess it'll be there soon enough.
  6. Great to see a Carmen McRae fan here. She is maybe the best ballad singer in history. There is a great interview with former band member drummer Joey Baron here. He talks about his own career but goes into great detail about his time in her band. https://pabloheldinvestigates.com/joey-baron/
  7. Superb review in Hifi recording and review. " HIFI NEWS AND RECORD REVIEW of Gidon Nunes Vas EMBRACE ME Definitely an audiophile recording...... the result is spectacular, with a warm, generous ambience you can almost reach out and touch each instrument; Gidon Nunez Vaz' trumpet, Timothy Banchet's piano, Thomas Pol's bass and the drums of the splendidly named Yoran Vroom- lovingly captured. And Denise Jannah's vocals on four of the tracks are simply gorgeous. The end result is a gentle, measured and totally appealing set. A.E
  8. Still need testikhof to have a go at the ''One Mic'' recordings from the same label, but anyway the whole catalogue is on a 20% sale at the moment. https://www.soundliaison.com/ These albums shows the great variety but superb musician ship of the labels output. SQ is unsurpassed.
  9. Yes both extremely well recorded, and the music is good too, maybe a little more highbrow than the Gomes or the Feenbrothers but nevertheless audiophile must haves. All their albums are on a 20 % discount at the moment: https://www.soundliaison.com/
  10. Actually it was just the word itself that made me make the thread. And I like how it is developing in the sense that a Sennheiser HD 800 can be a giant or a giant killer depending on what it is compared to.
  11. Giant Killer Headphones? Please list the models you think fits this phrase?
