  1. Hi. A year or so ago i tried Audirvana and had a few problems, but I pretty much got it to work but it wasn't for me. I just thought I'd give it another go, and downloaded the trial. What i'm trying to do is play DSD files in iTunes. I know I could do this before somehow, but I don't seem to be able to do it. I can play them through Audirvana, but how do you play them through iTunes? Wasn't it something to do with a proxy file?
  2. Hi. I haven't had much time to investigate, but I'm having some trouble with Audirvana. My DAC is the Arcam irDAC which I don't believe supports DSD, so I presume I needed to have Audirvana convert the .iso I have to PCM. The first time I tried it, it seemed to work but for some reason it would only play the first 30 seconds or so of each song (it said that each song was approx 30 secs long, but they're not) before moving onto the next. I tried reimporting but this time it wouldn't work and for some reason iTunes kept trying to go into Airplay mode (I have an Apple TV on my network). Other times, it looked like it'd converted to PCM at something else other than 24/88.2 that presumably my DAC can't handle - so no audio. Any ideas what's going on? Can anyone possibly suggest ideal settings for Audirvana? I'm a beginner and don't really understand the preferences.
  3. I've had a look around the forum but didn't quite see the answer to my current question... I just bought an Arcam irDAC, mainly as an outboard DAC for my CD player, but I am also interested in using it to play audio that I've got on my computer. I've a bunch of 24bit albums that came as downloads with vinyl records I've bought and so on. I currently have a macbook pro and gave Audirvana a try to see how it would work playing these files integrated with iTunes, with a view to being able to control it via my iPhone's remote app, hooked up to my DAC via USB. It all seemed to work perfectly, or well enough to consider buying a Mac Mini that I can hide away and forget about. I can't quite afford a new Mac Mini, nor do I really think it's necessary - unless I'm told otherwise. Therefore I suppose my question is what age of Mini will still work considering my desired set up. I doubt I'm going to care about all the tweaks and mods one can perform in the pursuit of electrical silence, so SSDs and the like aren't necessary (I think), but I'm mindful of the size of HD in the Minis and appreciate I might have to stick an external drive onto it. Can Audirvana cope with pulling data from a 5400rpm USB drive? Can an older mini (maybe one with an optical drive in it) cope with the demands of the kinds of audio I would like to play? will a C2D do it or does it have to be an i5? thanks in advance.
  4. So you're saying that a DAC won't make things sound any more tolerable? I don't want to come off as being ignorant, I was just wondering if the AE is a possible weak link and there might be some improvement to be found with another DAC, regardless of how poor Spotify is in the first place.
  5. Quick scene setting. I've got an old Arcam amp that I love the sound of. I currently stream spotify (set to its extreme, 320kbps format) to my amp via airplay to a brand new (re. square) Airport Express, and have it hooked up to my amp via analogue connections. Compared to CDs played through my Arcam player, audio from Spotify sounds flat, undynamic etc. I didn't expect it to be quite so obvious. So I'm wondering if a DAC will improve things. I've read some DACs don't play nicely with the AE, so am looking for advice as to how I might improve things.
