  1. I see you own DACS and USB-to-spdif converters. Have you ever use the Meridian Explorer as USB-to-spdif converter? It is possible to connact an 3.5mm toslink cable in the Meridian. Is that comparable to the Bel Canto Ulink or Reflink?
  2. Ok, would definitely try that I can buy the DAC in Holland with a nice free Audioquest Forest USB Cable for 295 euro. So that's a good price I think. I've not tought about that But are there also nice Half Hight PCI or PCI-E cards? My mediacenter can't support full Hight PCI cards I think ejn1 means to change an setting in the bios what could turn off the USB port when the system is shutted down. Then it should be powered when the system is on, off when your system is down (you don't need it powered then), or even when it is sleep.
  3. Thanks for your reply. I was not aware for difference in sound quality HDMI vs TOSLINK, so I give the onboard TOSLINK from my Mediacenter also a try for comparing it with the Apple Airport Express. I don't really know how an relative cheap deticated DAC compare between the build in DAC from my Rotel. So that's what I like from the Meridian, you can also use an optical cable as output from that DAC. So I can compare the analog output with the Meridian DAC or use an SPDIF cable and use my Rotel DAC instead. Some people say the Meridian is an overkill device for that price if you only use it as an DAC for your home setup and not use it portable with an headphone... Some people know better options for that price?
  4. I want to improve the music playback quality from my Mediacenter to my Rotel RSX-1550 receiver. At the moment i have done an comparing between Foobar2000 (WASAPI Push and Event) and Itunes streaming to an Airport Express. And i like the Airport express sound quality better.... I am play an FLAC file in Foobar2000 and converted that FLAC file to Apple Lossless for Itunes. I'm using Toslink for the Airport Express and HDMI for the Mediacenter. The direct playback in Foobar sounds agressive and disoriented, but it is detailed, while from the Airport express it sound relaxer and more laid back. While both are digital connected, you should think it could sound the same because i'm using the same internal DAC.... So is it the the fact it is not bit perfect using Foobar2000 with WASAPI? I want to have good music sound in every program i use on my mediacenter, Foobar2000, XBMC, and not be restricted to Itunes and the Airport Express.... My idea is to buy the Meridian Explorer and connect the device with Toslink to my receiver, so i can use the Async USB playback in Foobar2000 instead of WASAPI with my cheap onboard sound, will that be an enjoyable improvement? Probably it is it better to buy an DAC with a very good analog output, but i want to do that later when there are more options with DSD support. I want also DSD support then, but not realy like the options on this moment of time. So i was thinking of buying the Meridian, connecting it digitally to my Rotel as an temporary solution till more DSD DAC's are available. Good idea?
