  1. Well, after much thought I decided I needed 3 setups. One for my work office, where I don't want anything too expensive. And one for the home office where I can really play around with more expensive stuff. Im going to have a third setup in a "listening" room which will be the most I will ever spend on stereo equipment. For the work office, the room is a little smaller than my home office. I went with PSB Alpha PS1s, and a Meridian explorer. Reason I chose the Meridian was that my office computer is also my laptop, so the Meridian can accompany me on the go. Together they sound pretty good for the money and better than anything at my job. For my home office, Im going to go with my existing passive bookshelves and maybe a Peachtree Nova? Still thinking on that one. As far as the listening room, that is years and years away and I have mountain of stuff to read as a newbie, and I need to figure out how to convince my wife that buying thousands of dollars worth of stereo equipment is a good idea. Also, thanks to everyone for their help.
  2. Another thought. I have an unused KEF Q series 5.1 setup. I can probably hobble together a 2.1 setup from that, but I need an appropriate amp or receiver. If I were to go this route, what do you guys recommend for $500-600? Id like to get something that I can use later. Plan would be to use the KEF setup, then upgrade to better speakers when I can afford rather than get everything now for $500-600.
  3. Hi all, Im looking for a powered desktop setup for my computer in a 9x12 room. I do step away from my desk every now and then, so something that isnt strictly near-field would be preferable. Im thinking about the following: 1. PSB Alpha PS1 + Audioengine D1 I like this setup since I can add a sub if I want. And I do have a small Pinnacle powered sub gathering dust in the basement. Other ideas in the Sub $600 range? Im pretty clueless about external DACs, so is the Audioengine D1 a good choice? Is there a better choice while still being in budget? Also, regarding speakers, are there better choices for the price? I looked into Emotiva Airmotiv 4, but no sub out option available, although if the bass response is good, it doesnt matter. Since these speakers are pretty much going to reside on my desk and not on floor stands, I think Paradigms A2s would be too big (and out of my budget). Thoughts?
