  1. Yes it does, DoP works on AES as well.
  2. If you want to play a DSD file, it is most likely, that you have the necessary infrastructure for playback. First of all, you have the player application, in this case BitPerfect, since it is the software to convert DSD to the new Hybrid-DSD format. Second, you have the DSD capable hardware, otherwise you would just convert it to some sort of native PCM, if you are not happy with on-the-fly PCM conversion. There is only one single case in which I can imagine to be happy with a hybrid file format. If I want to play the same file in a portable music player (iPhone/iPod/iPad). However the problem of course with the hybrid file is the extra bulk of the DSD content added, which obviously contradicts portability. Maybe i have a bad imagination.
  3. Stupid way of doing things. You have to convert every and each DSD file to thier special format. Which is useless anywhere else. Great.
  4. AFAIK RIAA-EQ is done digitally after A/D in ULN-8.
  5. What is your budget? What type of turntable do you have?
  6. That's true, SPDIF, in general, is very sensitive to cable and terminal impedance. Expensive doesn't necessary mean high quality, especially if it is an SPDIF cable.
  7. He is absolutely wrong. I have no problem with SPDIF at 192/24 at all. He must have a low quality coaxial SPDIF cable.
  8. Is there a chance to play back DSD128 over Firewire?
  9. AES is way less sensitive on the cable then SPDIF because of the higher voltages and higher nominal impedance. I wouldn't be surprised, if you would have hard time finding a more then subtle difference.
  10. Parametric EQ is way better for you, by far. With the graphic EQ and 3 modified bands you are applying 3 different separate eq hills on the sound. With a param EQ you can do this with a single hill. For the best result you should look for a linear phase eq. You can try the following eq settings: freq=5.2kHz, gain=-4dB, Q=0.7 octave (or a bit wider)
  11. If you are looking for multichannel, you should check for professional products like Motu 828 mkIII, RME Fireface UC. These can do 8 channels of DA conversion over USB.
  12. They are only semi-transparent. After a 2-5x da-ad loopback you can abx the difference, which means, it is also there after a single iteration. The reason for this "surprisingly" good result is that the ad/da runs from the same internal clock, so there will be no effective jitter added during the processing. You cannot save the jitter with the last single DA conversion in the setup.
  13. I have absolutely no clue, what are you talking about. What do you mean multiple conversions. Can you describe your setup? I've done some loopback tests before. I can send you some audio files for abx testing, if you are interested.
  14. 1) It shows the sample rate of the incoming signal. 2) I would avoid hardware upsampling, just as the improper implementation of software upsampling (iTunes).
