  1. Thanks for your help. One other question. I currently have a 3.5mm to rca stereo connection. Would the mini to TOSlink connection be preferable to the rca stereo? Assuming I just want to stream stereo files, and not multichannel.
  2. Thanks for your reply. You are correct, my MacBook can't output audio through the mini-display port/hdmi, which is why I have the current adapter that grabs audio from USB. Would using a mini-TOSlink to TOSlink sound as good as a USB audio connection? From what I understand, the reason to use USB was to avoid using the digital out since the digital can have unwanted noise from the computer marring the sound. And using USB, wouldn't you avoid using whatever subpar parts they use in the digital output? Perhaps I'm mistaken or misinformed. I've been looking for just a USB to HDMI adapter that could handle high-resolution audio, but specs are not easy to come by in this regard. Do you, or anyone else, happen to know of one that works well?
  3. Hi everyone, first post here. I've browsed the forums for awhile, so hopefully this is in the right forum - I wasn't quite sure where to post. Perhaps someone can help me with an issue I've run into. I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro that I connect to my Pioneer 1019 receiver. I initially wanted to be able to watch video/listen to audio from my Mac to my TV, so I bought this adapter from Monoprice: For only $23.69 each when QTY 50+ purchased - Mini Displayport Male | Thunderbolt® and USB Male Audio to HDMI® Female Converting Adapter that I connect to an HDMI cable. This works fine most of the time and serves its purpose. Now that I've been downloading higher resolution FLAC files (24/96, etc.), I was thinking I could use my receiver as a DAC until I can purchase an external USB DAC for my laptop. The receiver can handle resolution signals up to 24/192 via HDMI so I figured it would be perfect. Well, here's the issue: I just downloaded Audirvana Plus and when I connect to my receiver and play a 24/96 FLAC file, Audirvana displays my receiver/dac is only sampling at 16/48. I've checked all my computer settings (audio output, USB audio, etc.) and my receiver settings - those all seem fine. So, why would it display at only 16/48? Is there something I'm possibly missing? Do you think the Monoprice adapter is the issue - perhaps it is not rated to pass a higher resolution audio signal with the conversion of USB to HDMI? Many thanks for your help!
