  1. This album is cool because it has a few unreleased outtakes; including a mono vamp blues tune with no title and a stereo version of Lime Street Blues. As vinyl, it is a bit of a farce. The liner notes clearly state that the source is ..... digital.
  2. Great question. I would like to know this also. Sure would be great to get this going on my two 83 units.
  3. Grill, To be honest I am not clear what you are suggesting. What I meant to say is that the FIIO is great at playing both SACD ISO files and also extracted DSD formatted files. And better yet is actually decodes the SACD DSD files "natively" without converting them to PCM. So the fidelity is terrific. Now that I can do individual song extractions properly using Ted's suggestion, everything is even better. As far as a phone goes I suspect you can use the phone as a bit bucket to send the files to your external DAC. There may be programs to play DSD on the phone itself, but most phones both IOS and Android are internally limited to 48khz and 24 bits. So the resolution is likely to be mediocre at best. You would probably be wasting phone storage space on the large files required by DSD.
  4. This worked very well, thanks As an answer to Grill, the FIIO X3 II can play SACD ISO files directly along with DSF files. It has native processing, so the DSD files are not converted to PCM before playback but are processed directly.
  5. Hi all. I have a few SACD derived ISO files that various friends have made from my original discs. I turns out that some of my portable players can play back the ISO files directly, but some need to have the individual songs extracted. I have done so using both a commercial audiophile program and some user developed tools. In both cases, the extracted files seem to have some pops and clicks throughout the files when played back. Is this evidence that my playback units are running out of horsepower to play the files and that is the source of the noise, or I am I doing something wrong when I do the extractions? Thanks for some input.
  6. The 192 khz PCM version of this album is the best proof I can think of that hi res audio is not smoke and mirrors. And yes, 192 khz is a positive factor in this. As I understand it, the slope of the digital filter is negligible with high bit rates. My ears can't hear it in terms of frequency response per se but the overall resulting sound is more natural. We probably need a new flame war thread on this issue; I have not seen such a thing in a while. I am like Paul's grandfather in A Hard Days Night; a mixer.
  7. Another vote the for 24/192 from HDTracks. I have the first DSD release, and who knows how many versions on 16/44. But the HDTracks version has a certain rightness to it.
  8. The history of the hi res digital transfers and where they ended up is a bit hard to follow. My sense is that there were two hi res transfers. One somewhere around 1999 and one around 2006. The second seems to have been done in dsd and PCM 24 - 192. The first sacd had both 2 and 3 channel mixes. The japan sacd from 2006 or so has the more recent transfer doe the 2 channel mix but used the old mix for the 3 channel version. The new hd tracks release uses the 2006 transfer. Is that correct? it seems more audiophiles prefer the 2006 or 2007 sacd release which should be similar to the new HD tracks version. Roughly rught ? Very wrong ? for what it's worth it have the first sacd release.
  9. Boy if HD Tracks actually has files that are not as represented, I would hope that the files are replaced and previous buys notificed and upgraded. I do think the CSN first album is as represented. And many files seem to me to be conversions straight from DVD-Audio or SACD.
  10. I am experimenting with this software. It seems to have two components at a high level; a media library management system, and audio/video playback. The audio playback seems like a parallel feature set to Foobar. The video portion seems like a parallel version of MPC-HC. In a tutorial, they even have one put the DLL from Arcsoft DTS-HD MA into a LAV folder, which strikes me as very MPC-HC (though I did not find such a folder in my install). Anyboy care to correct me (nicely of course)?
  11. The parties in the conflict both take fairly strong positions. I wish they could work something out, but one side sees the fight as being about not being annihilated, and the other sees the other side as being completely non legitimate and worthy of annihilation. Personally, I think Roger Waters is indeed anti-semitic, and uses Israel as a stalking horse for his real opinions. What does not mean that a good debate should be had, but Waters in my view has no interest in looking at a nuanced position.
  12. With regard to HD Tracks, what tracks are not as claimed?
  13. If Apple has relatively high res downloads it could grow the overall market. But when it is an option, I would suggest we support the independents. I kind of like HDTracks; why all the beefing?
  14. Boy, I thought I liked this album. But its clear from this thread that I am just a piker when it comes to Kind of Blue. So I detect a debate on mono vs. stereo implicit in here. So my question is.....how many listen to and / or prefer the 3 channel version ? Where does this fit into your though process?
  15. Perhaps this is a bit off topic. Based on this thread, were there hi res versions of the entire PF catalog released? I have the DSOTM and WYWH releases in hi res. The rest were released also?
