  1. Hi, guys, I really appreciate all the info and suggestions I received from all of you. It will make my learning process easier and faster. I consider this thread as fulfilled, unless, of course, someone has something more to add. Thanks again to you all...
  2. Hi, Savage, Is Playstation the only option for ripping SACDs? I'd rather not go that way. I'd prefer to limit the quantity of gear in my use, especially so that I still am in the process of acquiring more essential pieces (like the Oppo 105 and/or NAD M50). My guess is that I will have to forget about ripping SACDs and limit myself to using CD parts of SACD/CD hybrids for that purpose... Would that be something like VLC?
  3. Your replies are most helpful, wwaldmanfan! May I ask one more stupid question about XLD? After you explained, I can appreciate that pregap, ISRC and MCN are important. But I think I saw a statement somewhere within that program, saying that those are not compatible with Free-DB service (or am I delusional)?
  4. Thanks, wwaldmanfan, As a matter of fact, I have installed XLD on my Mac a couple of days ago and started exploring it. I don't see any option for adjusting resolutions of extractions. Does this application automatically adjust to the native resolution of the recording, or do I have to manually input required resolution for each hi-rez CD (and how)? Or do I have to fire up Terminal (definitely, not my territory) in order to change resolution? While we're at it, what do "pregap", "ISRC" and "MCN" mean? Is there any user manual available for XLD? I couldn't find any on its website...
  5. I'm a newbie here and a newbie computer audiophile. I use my MacMini and iTunes for ripping and cataloging my CDs in AIFF format and AudirvanaPlus for playback. As we know, iTunes allows ripping into up to 16-bit / 48kHz files. But some of the CDs I have are recorded and/or remastered in several hi-res technologies, like Direct-to-Disc, Hybrid SACD/CD in DSD, or were remastered at 24-bit / 96kHz resolution. My question, therefore, is: what methods and software (if any) are available on a Mac to rip music from those CDs and SACDs into higher resolution files than iTunes allow? I should add that I am not interested in using lossless compressed formats and upsampling methods.
  6. I stream over Bluetooth. As to my expectations for improving the sound with the help of Audirvana, I did not have any. I simply tried to use it out of curiosity. But now that I think of it, indeed, I would expect Audirvana to help. Bluetooth is just a "vehicle" (or the "wheels", if you will). Audirvana is the "engine". So, in my (admittedly) non-expert mind, I would think that same improvements that happen within my wired setup, also apply to Bluetooth. Am I wrong? Could anybody shed some light on this subject - while addressing my problem discribed in my original post? Thanks...
  7. Jon, I also received your amazing deepblue a couple of days ago. It sounds great for a device in this category. I stream music from my MacMini (at about 6 feet distance). With iTunes, everything works as expected, but I did not have any luck trying to use AudirvanaPlus as my music player. As a matter of fact, I got in trouble trying to use Audirvana. What happens is Audirvana shows message: "Initializing audio device" and the "beach ball" starts spinning endlessly. After that I can not quit Audirvana and/or iTunes, even by force-quitting. I can not even shut off my computer in a normal way, except by holding the power button for 10 seconds. Is there any advise you can give me, except for contacting the Audirvana makers?
