  1. I am away from home for several months. I recently bought the Mytek Brooklyn, with which I have been very happy so far. I am an MQA fan, though I know many think it is hocus pocus. What can I tell you, I trust my ears. I bought the Brooklyn in part because it is transportable but also sounds great in my component system. While away in Denver, I have been listening to it with my Sennheiser 650s. Not bad, but not all that satisfying. At home (with admittedly great speakers, Legacy Aeris), I usually have a hard time getting myself to turn the system off and go to bed. With the 650s, not so much. Has anyone found an optimal HP for the Brooklyn in, say, the $1000 range. I mostly listen to classical and what I would call ballad singers (e.g. Eva Cassidy). I once compared the Focal Elears with the 650s, and thought the Elears won handily. But it was a brief comparison and was not done with the Brooklyn.
  2. First of all, it sort of is apples and oranges. Headphones and speakers give you different listening experiences. OP is generally correct. Everything else being equal, HPs are more resolving. But a good component system will usually do everything else better, soundstage, bass, etc. Also, if price is no object, I suspect for, say, $100,000, you could create a component system that out-resolves the best HP system. I'll never know unless some really rich person invites me over! It might be true that you get more musical value for your buck with HPs. For $12,000 you can get a great DAC, HPs, and HP amp. $12,000 would buy you a nice component system, but not a great one.
  3. Manual? Those were the old days. It is Comcast/Xfinity, if that helps.
  4. My cable box has a "digital audio out," though I could not tell you what cable to use. Can I connect it to the Brooklyn?
  5. Well, it is the road I went down, and so far I am glad I did. The Brooklyn is a great value, and for me it has also saved money. You don't need a cd player or a preamp. If you are determined to get a preamp, I would look for a used CJ ET3SE. It is truly a great preamp and mine and a couple of others are for sale at the upper end of your range on Audiogon.
  6. FWIW, Michal mentioned at a presentation that one of the reasons the Manhattan sounds better is bigger power supplies. Forgive my ignorance, but how do you connect an external power supply?
  7. Most of the reviews I have read, and my own experience to date, would see the Brooklyn as Class A (or maybe B+). I definitely like it better than my Modwright modded Oppo 105d, a TAS produvt of the year. But an external power supply seems like a good idea for people like me who also want a transportable headphone amp, which the Brooklyn is small enough to be. What are the top PS's (besides the 100 VA)?
  8. I recently bought the Brooklyn. While I have had some troubles with the Mytek drivers (see other posts), I like the DAC a lot. I am also a fan of MQA. I know some people think it is all hocus pocus, but to my ears MQA really makes a difference. When I have a little more time in, I will post a more formal review.
  9. Well, I got the Brooklyn working on a different Windows computer. The problem may have been the age of the first computer (2009). I am guessing the dac is designed for newer generations of computers. Is that possible?
  10. Thanks. I think the Mytek is current, but I'll check om Windows. BTW, this also happened with Windows 7 on the old computer. Also not USB2 compliant? Why don't drivers account for this?
  11. Recently, I got a Mytek Brooklyn on trial. I could not get the drivers to work properly. I would get a message that I needed to disconnect and reconnect the device, no matter whether it was connected or not. I had a similar problem with an Oppo 105 before. I called the dealer, and after a lot of trial and error, we got the Mytek working, in this case on Windows 10. Then a USB port on the computer failed. While it is out for repair, I tried to get the Mytek drivers to work on an old computer with Windows 7. Same drill. No matter how I did it, disconnect, disconnect and reconnect, reboot computer, reboot Mytek, I got the same damn window telling me to connect and reconnect. Very frustrating. Have others had ths problem? I would be the first to admit I am not a sophisticated IT person, but it should not be this hard! BTW, the other computer was actually a Mac running Windows. No drivers are needed for the Mac side, but then I coud not get Tidal to work properly on the Mac. Any words of wisdom (more about Windows than the Mac, but I will take what I can get)?
  12. Fair enough. When I play music with Roon, I get no sound. At one point, it did work briefly, but now does not again. Everything looks set up correctly. Since the sysyem works fine with Foobar and the Tidal app on the PC, the Mytec drivers don't seem to be the problem. On the Ipad, Roon recognizes my PC, but fails to find my music.
  13. Well, I wish I knew. So far, no answer to my queries. The Tidal app works on my Ipad, but I want to control my OC remotely with Tidal/mqa. Thanks, but mqa is a major reason I subscribe to Tidal and got a Mytec dac. I have just gotten into computer audio and don't understand all the lingo. Given this new info, do you have a suggestion?
  14. So, I am running Tidal on a Lenovo Yoga. I would like to be able to control it remotely on my Ipad. I was hoping to do this with Roon, but so far Roon has been a bust. Pretty much nothing works the way it is supposed to, and my critical questions have gone unanswered. Are there any other options in this regard?
  15. Can it serve as a preamp? Actually, for that price it should be able to give you a massage!
