Hello, I have been researching the issue of peak normalization (constant gain below 0db's with no clipping) and it seems there is a great debate across the relevant forums as to whether this results in degraded audio quality. Even this excellent article at 10 Myths About Normalization - Hometracked still leaves me puzzled as to whether this is a good idea and if so which is the best way to implement it. My music library is organized with iTunes and consists of cd, vinyl, dvd-a, and sacd from redbook up to 24/192 resolution. I want to have some sort of consistent volume level between my tracks but I don't want to sacrifice any audio quality in order to achieve this goal. On OSX there are several tools like iTunes built-in SoundCheck, iVolume, Fission, etc. supposed to work but do they really leave audio quality untouched? Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
