  1. I checked the event log, and there are several error messages about "license activation failure" with the following code 0xC0048011. I looked up the error message and it says: DTS_E_CANTGIVEAWAYBUFFER The Data Flow task engine attempted to copy a buffer to assign another thread, but failed. This makes no sense to me. Any thoughts? Thanks, Kevin
  2. ted_b when I go to computer/properties, it tells me it is not activated. When I click on activate, it asks for a product key. Phil that is the command I used from the other thread. It did change the expired message, but is still not activating the trial.
  3. I went to the link you attached ted_b and performed the "rearm" The main screen now says: "Test Mode" "Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard Evaluation" "Build 9600" I am attached to the internet, but I still see no way of activating, nor is it activating the trial period on it's own. This is a single PC setup. Kevin
  4. Thanks for all of the comments. The server is attached to the network. It even checks for updates (and has been updated since loading). And I downloaded Foobar2000 directly from the internet. Phil, your directions do say - ATTENTION: If you are using the TRIAL Edition, activate it online immediately! If you don’t activate it, it will not run for the full trial period and will start shutting itself down automatically if idle. I just can't figure out how to do that. In the corner of the main screen mine says: "Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard Evaluation" "Windows License is expired" "Build 9600" Any thoughts on how I activate the trial period?
  5. My Windows 2012 server is continually shutting down. By searching, I find several places that say to activate it to prevent this. I want to use for the 180 day trial period only for now. How do I activate without an activation code? Or how do I prevent it from shutting itself down? Thanks, Kevin
  6. Advice is always good, thank you all. I have listened for a few hours today, going back and forth between Win 8 Pro and Win Server 2012. Add me to the list that prefers Win Server 2012.
  7. Success!! I uninstalled the SoTM driver and used the Windows drivers. Works perfectly.
  8. I did a complete reinstall, here are the steps: installed win server 2012 R2 installed intel chipset driver installed intel NIC driver installed SoTM drivers (with compatibility mode - Win 7) installed intel management engine - for PCI driver installed foobar2000 with upnp and wasapi plugins I still have the pops, crackles and dropouts. I can minimize the pops and crackles (not eliminate) by changing buffer and wasapi settings in foobar. Does it look like I have missed anything? Also, there are no pops, crackles nor dropouts when I connect to any other USB port, only with the SoTM, and I have no issues in Win 8 Pro while connected to SoTM.
  9. I uninstalled the drivers and re-installed in compatibility mode. It was better especially the pops and crackles - they were not completely gone. Unfortunately, the dropouts continued. The drivers did install ok both ways. Perhaps I will try a complete re-install. Thanks for the ideas.
  10. I just tried by connecting to a different USB port - not via the SoTM USB. It plays perfectly. But does not sound nearly as good as Win8 with the SoTM card. So, it would seem that it is an issue with SoTM card and Server 2012 (no problem with the SoTM card and Win8). I did try two different drivers for the SoTM card while I was trouble shooting - no difference. Anyone else experience this?
  11. Hi Phil, The pc is connected to a dCS Scarlatti Upsampler which I believe is USB 1.0 and uses the standard Windows driver. I don't know of a way to change the latency of the standard windows driver. Is there a way to change this? I'm also using a SoTM USB card. Kevin
  12. Hi Bob, I don't follow. What files are you referencing? Additionally, it is the same network for the Win8 or Server 2012. The network is performing similarly in both versions. I have installed all of the Intel drivers (except for the Intel HD graphics driver).
  13. Update: Still no success. I have tried reloading drivers and loading different versions of drivers. I've checked for IRQ conflicts. I've tried numerous combinations of settings in Foobar2000. I even tried the newest version of JRiver. While I can reduce the frequency of the pops, clicks and dropouts (short hiccups or volume reduces slightly), I can not eliminate. I have none of these issues on the exact hardware, drivers, settings, etc with Windows 8 Pro. I am glad that I tried prior to purchasing the Audio Optimizer mentioned earlier in this thread. I am out of things to try, so will go back to enjoying the music from Windows 8 Pro. I am still open to trying anything I may have missed. Kevin
  14. I installed Windows Server 2012 on my Zuma-like build (DH87RL board, intel msata, SotM USB). It was very difficult to get the Intel NIC driver loaded as Intel does not support Server 2012 on this board. It was possible. I am using Foobar2000, and during playback I get clicks, pops and random dropouts. I have been using this server with same hardware and Win8 Pro with no problem. I tried adjusting buffer settings and WASAPI settings with no luck. Any thoughts? Thanks, Kevin
  15. Hi Mike, Yes, you can easily install 2 SSD's in addition to an mSATA SSD. Kevin
