  1. Hello, This seems as good a place as any to ask this question. I have been lucky to keep a TV out of my audio system for the last few year... but to be honest not sure if that is a big deal or not. What impact would having a TV in my audio setup impact sound staging, etc? Worse that the plain white wall that is there now? What impact would throwing a blanket or some kind of absorption material over the TV when doing serious audio listening have? Any products that specialize in this? Anyhow forced to move my PC and VR system downstairs, need the floorspace for VR, and have been doing more work on this system after hours when my wife is sleeping. Any input appreciated. Thanks! Chris
  2. I noticed they are also releasing a an optical module: https://www.sonore.us/opticalModule.html This might be interesting to do a fiber to ethernet conversion prior to the ethernet in on my Ayre QX-5 Twenty Ethernet to see if the isolation Chris is talking about has an impact and reduces the noise flow. Seem like this could potentially be out in front of the untraRendy instead of purchasing the Optical Rendu, Will have to see the difference in price points.
  3. Yeah, that was just my lack of knowledge on transformers. Sometimes they hum and I thought that my introduce noise.
  4. First time posting here, long time view of the site. I am originally from Michigan but have spent the last number of years, nearly 20, living in Japan. I have collected quite a few audio components running at 100V. I may possibly move back to the US so trying to see if anyone has wired there home audio to handle 100V and 120V? I know in Japan a lot of people have 100V and 220V running in there homes... some to run European import products.... but some people actually build they tube amps to run off 220V cause the think it sounds better. For lower end items, TVs, etc. I would typically go out and find a decent step down trans from 120V to 100V. I have a few high end components from Luxman. There M-900U power amp and C-700U Pre-Amp. Also have a Ayre QX-5 Twenty DAC but Ayre said they would modify for me if I moved back to the US. Luxman did not provide quite the same level of support but probably fairly expensive transformers would have to be swapped to make the conversion. Luxman said use the step-down trans route but that just seems like such an opportunity to introduce noise into the line... Thanks for your ideas. Chris
  5. I did find over the weekend that the clicking between tracks could be different between audio playback packages. River Media Center only clicks when I change from one sample rate to another. The audio player that comes with Luxman DA-06 clicks even when changing between DSD tracks... Actually the click even seems worse with the Luxman DA-06 software. I also tried HQ Audio Player and it seemed closed to JRiver. I only tried Window 8 software audio playback software... Hope this helps.
  6. The clicking noise for the relay occurs when you change the sampling rate of the source being played. For example if you are play a 44khz wav file then switch to 96khz or DSD. If you stay with the same sample rate between songs, transition to the next song does not produce the clicking sound. The blogs here in Japan talk a lot about the clicking noise asking for Luxman to improve. It does not really bother me and does not detract from the listening experience. The sales guy said the relay was introduced to prevent feedback from switching between DSD sources and non-DSD sources. He said this could create some nice feedback over your speakers. I read a few sites in Japan confirming the same but I have not compared to any other DSD capable DAC to confirm this theory on the "feedback preventing relay." End of the day, the DAC sounds great and the click of the relay is a secondary item for me and the enjoyment I am getting out of the DAC makes it a non-issue for me. chris m
  7. I was waiting for someone to review this before I purchased but ended up not being able to wait after my first audition. I have had my Luxman DA-06 for about 1 month now. I did not think that I would hear such a difference but I have found that the DA-06 is definitely a component I have been pleasantly surprised for. I am definitely enjoying Hi-Res and DSD file playback but I was surprised to hear the improvement on standard 44.1 files over USB. It is not a miracle worker on poor recordings but I must admit a lot of songs have become very enjoyable to listen too. My BenchmarkMedia DAC has been benched. Originally from Michigan but working in Japan. This is a $3400 list $2600 discounted DAC in Japan. Unfortunate for the US markup. Considering I was able to purchase for only the twice the price of the Benchmark and less than the Berkeley Audio Design Alpha DAC Series 2, I would say this is a very good audio bargain. Associated equipment: Electrocompaniet AW250 Power Amp, Parasound JC-2 Pre, Ascend Acoustics Sierra-1 Bookshelf, MacMini Running Windows and JRiver Media Center via USB, SONO via PCM. Back to my toe tapping enjoyment... Chris
