  1. I hadn't heard of the Teac, so I looked it up. It seems to have better specs than the STU at a quick glance. Dual DAC's, toroidal-core power transformer, and Muses op-amp sound better on paper at least. I am super happy with my STU, but now I kind of want to try the Teac. Why are you thinking of replacing it?
  2. I don't have experience with the Essence III, but I do have the STU which it seems to be somewhat similar to, at least in outside appearance. I am sure the III sounds even better, though I don't know how much better you could get than the STU. Obviously the DSD feature is going to be sweet, and it's a feature I don't have in my STU.
  3. 204 views and one reply. Kind of bummed, but I'll enjoy my Asus STU all by myself. I honestly cannot imagine music sounding better. It certainly sounds real/live, and it cannot sound any better than that, right? On a side note, I bought Patsy Cline's Greatest hits from Acousticsounds, and Ben Harper's Retrospective on HDtracks yesterday- both sound amazing!!
  4. Thanks. My system is not high-end. I've been in the Navy for 14 years and counting and I am not getting rich from it. My turntable is a Project Debut Carbon with a cork mat and upgraded Ortofon Blue cartridge. Not the greatest, I know, but until now, nothing sounded better. I also have a Bellari Tube phono preamp with a NOS RCA 12AX7 in it from the 50's. Oh, and I have a Decware linestage amp (ZSTAGE) that I move between my analog and digital music from time to time, but it mostly stays on the digital side. I have an H/K receiver (AVR330) driving Energy RC30 speakers. Now I know it's nowhere up there with a lot of the system on here, but it's good enough for me for now, and recorded music has never sounded so natural and real to me. Oh, and as mentioned in my first post I have Grado RS2i headphones.
  5. There's not much information on these yet, I know; I looked extensively before making the decision to buy Asus's Xonar Essence STU. It may not be their top of the line product, but let me tell you, it's good! Very, very good!! It has breathed new life into my Grado RS2i headphones. I've had these headphones for a few years (2-3) and was always kind of disappointed when using them with the Grado amp. With the Asus.... HOLY COW! Amazing. My speakers sound better than ever too. My digital music now surpasses my extensive record collection, and then some. Has anyone else given the Asus a serious listen? What did you think? Curious if anyone else is as happy with it as I am.
