  1. Hi dear CA members ! I found some contradictory infos on this subject : Is this useful to install a ram-disk and to copy Itunes (and Amarra) on it or is it completely useless ? Do you hear a difference ? I just try that afternoon but I didn't make my mind up yet... If the answer is yes, do you also copy parts of the music library on the ram-disk or not ? Because that's not so convenient ... what do you think ? Thanks so much, dear audiophile friends ! Have a good week-end (in music) ;-)
  2. OK Chris, thanks ! So let's wait !! ;-)
  3. Hello, I'm looking for a good USB DAC with a reasonable price (under 2000$). I've read that since few weeks a Lavry Engineering is on the market with a 24/96 USB : the lavry DA-11, but I don't find any objective review of this DAC and very few feed-backs. I've heard that the lavry DA-10 was better than the Benchmark DAC1, so the DA-11 must be interrested ! I'm certainly impatient because it's new, but does somebody know what it is worth ? (I mean what are its qualities, I know its price ;-) ). Maybe Chris will have in the next week the excellent idea to make a (so interresting) review (as usual)?? It would be so cool ! Anyway, feed-backs on the DA-11 would be very appreciated ! Thanks ! Quentin, newby looking for building his computer audiophile...
  4. Thanks Chris for your quick answer ! I get the point (and I must have read something wrong about the mac's built-in sound card). As I intend to have my first hifi system this year with a new labtop as musical server (macbook), I'll probably keep the built-in sound card of Mac because the DAC I wish to buy is not accepting more than 24/96 in input (Cambridge DacMagic). This will be enough for beginning and for a non unlimited budget ! ;-) Thanks again and looking forward to come back at shool (in the Computer Academy !) ;-)
  5. Hi audiophiles, First, thanks Chris for offering a such interresting site ! The little audiophile word is knowing a deep mutation with hi-rez download and the use of CPU in the hifi. We are part of it and it's cool ! I'm particularry interrested in the hardware issue, as beginner. Thanks to the cash list, I think I understand that we could link a DAC to the CPU (PC or Mac) with a sound card. You'll find my question certainly very naiv, but why using a better sound card if it's not to convert Digital to Analogic (you have a DAC to do the job) ? I'm wondering all the more that on Mac its native sound card goes up to 24 b/192 Khz. So why ?? Looking forward to reading ! Thanks !
