  1. Hi Guys - i have just been able to get my hands on a CAPS Carbon v3 server and have also just installed one of those Intel Dual Band AC 7260 PCI express mini wireless adapters. Now not realising these actually need to be attached to an antenna to work effectively I was wondering just how in fact you get the anternnas to attach to this thing? With the card installed with no antennas attached I can actually attach to the network when the server is in the same room as the wireless router. But when i move the CAPS server into the music room the signal is attenuated so much that i am unable to establish a connection. It has been driving me nuts and then i just did a bit more research and saw the card needs to be connected to antennas. The back of the Server just has one large plate which doesn't really allow to attach any other plates so that i can connect to the outside of the server. Just wondering what you may have done to resolve this issue? Are there internal antennas that can be used for this particular brand of Intel Wireless Adapter?
  2. Hey guys - i know this thread is well over a year old now and so am i. But I am the guy who brought along the Playback Designs MPS-5 (Not the MPD-5 that Bill mentioneD) to the DAC gtg Bill mentioned in post #50 of this thread http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f6-dac-digital-analog-conversion/phasure-nos1-digital-analogue-converter-owners-impressions-post-here-19323/index2.html#post298866 Bill sometimes referred to me as "the PD Guy" throughout this thread. My recollections of this DAC comparison is so different to Bill's. I never did post to this thread because i didn't know about it :-) but i was just doing a search on Google for "Playback Designs MPS-5 or Phasure" to see what came up and i found this thread. For awhile now after this gtg last year with the Phasure I have wanted to be left alone with the Phasure in MY own system to do a good comparison between the Phasure and the Playback Designs MPS-5. Prior to this gtg that Bill alludes to on post #50 - Anthony did bring down the Phasure to my place to listen too and we had some others at this session also. During that session Anthony did use the XXHighend software but at the listening session referred to in post #50 - the person used Audirvana software. Even though the two listening environments were different the Phasure i heard with the Audirvana was most definitely different to the Phasure i heard at my place using the XXHigh-End software. I thought the Phasure i heard at my place was a better sounding Phasure than what i heard at the other DAC (post #50) gtg. I suspect the XXHighend software had a lot to do with it but given that they were both two different systems it was difficult to say. So what is the point of all this i hear you ask? Well good question. Ever since i have heard the Phasure it is the only DAC I have heard that has come close to my PBD MPS-5 DAC. I have always wanted to loan one for an extended loan to do a good A/B comparison. So after all this time I finally have the chance. The person who was listening to those DAC's mentioned in post #50 did so as he wanted to replace his Minerva. He ultimately decided to go with the Phasure DAC. Now he is travelling for the next month and i have been able to loan his unit for the next month and i intend to do a good listen between his Phasure (NOS 1a) and my Playback Designs. I won't be using the XXXHighend software but rather the HQPlayer software as part of this process. FWIW the DAC comparison mentioned in post #50 i rated as follows; PBD MPS-5 Phasure Weiss Minerva & Killer I noticed when i brought myself up to speed reading this thread that Bill occassionally mentioned that even the "PD Guy" (assuming he meant me) liked the Killer DAC also. I can reliably inform you this was not the case. I am not too sure how Bill formed this view. But given these events occurred more than 12mths ago it probably no longer matters. All i do know is all this time - since Anthony brought down his Phasure to my place and listening to the Phasure DAC the gentlemen bought from post #50 - whose place i visit frequently for music sessions I have wanted to get one (Phasure) back here to my place in my own system for extended listening. Finally i get the chance. I look forward to listening and updating this thread with what i hear. If there is a more appropriate thread i should post too then please let me know.
  3. I know this is a relatively old thread so apologies in advance for bringing it to the fore again. Recently i have just gone through the task of converting ALL of my 32,000 audio ALAC files to AIFF using the iTunes converter. I noticed that when i started doing these conversions "wholesale" the conversion process would halt at a certain file informing me that a particular file was not of a recognised format - even though it was an ALAC audio file. I would then attempt to play the file in iTunes (and other media players) and sure enough there was something wrong with the playback of this file. Usually the file would play for a bit and then give a scratchy white noise sound before just skipping the remainder of the track and moving onto the next audio file. So clearly the file was corrupted somehow. After converting as many of the 32,000 audio files i have found i have lots of these types of files. So i have started to source the original CD's that they were ripped from to re-rip the corrupt files from the CD. This is going to be a long tedious process - a process that i have just started. I was not aware that i had so many corrupt files in my digital library. It it wasn't for the conversion process using iTunes i would not have known about them in the first place. I knew from previous listening sessions i had what i thought was a few files that were corrupt but certainly not as many as has been identified during the file conversion process. I should add that it was a good idea that i used iTunes to do this because the conversion halted when a corrupted file was discovered. When i tried to rip the same corrupted file using J River the J River AIFF conversion utility just converted the corrupt ALAC file to a corrupt AIF file with no warning what so ever. So after discovering how many of these files i had i set about researching "checking for audio file integrity" ... and stumbled upon this post. The issue i have now is attempting work out how i can run some program from time to time to identify those files that may become corrupt over time for AIF type of files.
  4. Just resurrecting a relatively old thread and in my search for the ultimate listening chair i came upon this thread and i also came upon this chair I can't vouch for it's comfort as i have never sat it in. But it sure looks like it would fit the bill of a good music listening chair?
  5. I want to be able to play music files loaded/synced onto my iphone from my home pc through my work pc when my iphone is connected to my work pc. Is there an easy way to do this? I am also using j. river mc on my work pc and i don't want to load itunes onto my work pc if this can be helped.
