  1. Thanks the Pioneer might be a contender, seems it is not readily available in the USA but not completely out of production. Naim look interesting going to see how to actually buy them
  2. So I have been using my Oppo BDP-95 for years now as my audio player. I have alot of lossless audio on a hard drive connected to a PC and use the Asset Upnp program to serve up my music through DLNA. With the news oppo is going under I have to come to terms with the fact I may need to eventually move on from my UDP-95 What I'm looking for is a dedicated network oriented audio player with good DAC's and analog outs, built like a dedicated playing device, some type of screen on the player or video output to a TV so I can see and browse the music I want to play and remote control capabilities. App control is nice to have but I'd probably stick with more traditional remote control methods. I list these pretty mundane features cause some of the devices I've looked at have no screen, have no analog outputs, are built as pre/pro's/amps and not players etc. So far the only readily available product that meets my needs is the Cambridge 851N https://www.cambridgeaudio.com/usa/en/products/851/851n I'd like to stick with a product still being actively made with current updates, since I may be moving on from a defunct company in Oppo I don't want to buy a defunct model. Cambridge player is still being made while lots of other Network players are dead. So as far as my needs go is this it? The Cambridge player? It seems ok but I always like to have multiple choices in products.
  3. The HDtracks version of "The Yes Album" is very similar to this. I'm just amazed we FINALLY got an audiophile grade version of Tales and they did not screw it up.
  4. Ok so I just finished listening to the entire thing on headhpones and my initial reaction stands. Perfect Legit High res transfer, no tape hiss of any type, many details that were hidden in cd releases have come to life and much better sounding than any High Res LP rip I've heard. It also has a warm natural analog sound and is not harsh in the least. A+ perfect, well worth the money if you are at all a fan of this album get this immediately.
  5. I'm skipping around quiet parts of The Remembering with headphone and it is dead quiet, no tape hiss. This one turned out well no worries
  6. I got it and jumped on the 24/192 version, I'm usually a 24/96 guy but this is one of my favorite albums so a I splurged. I have alot of versions of this along with alot of high res LP rips and so far this one is the best but I do have to really sit down and listen I've only scanned a few sections to get an idea of the sound quality. The DR is good and the spectrum is legit high res, the signal goes all the way up and does NOT cut off at 22k like the recent close to the edge release. This is a 100% legit High res release in good shape with no tape issues or anything else plaguing it.
  7. Wilson is doing it right. Instead of taking a bad multi gen back up master tweaking it a little and charging a premium he is going back the original multi tracks and making a new mix essentially creating a new 1st gen source. I'm sure Wilson version will come out greatly ahead just simply because he is going back the original multi tracks. From what I've heard of his remixes they are good to me and stay true to the original intend.
  8. After the disaster with Close to the edge and him deleting every thread that questioned the quality of the master he used for it I would not believe a word he says about the origin of the tapes he uses
  9. To bad they did not include "How soon is now" I know it was a single that ended up on meat is murder after the fact but it is quite easily their best song. I got ahold of a perfect quality high res LP rip of How soon is now and threw it in as track # 41 just to complete the set.
  10. I user Korg to convert any High res audio or high res LP rips I have. I convert it to 5.6mhz DSD then reconvert it to 24bit 96K lossless. I know most will think I'm crazy but the DSD conversion to my ears give the audio a warmer more analog like sound signature. The first time I did this for fun I closely examined the wavforms and they looked reasonably different than the original files so the conversion process did change the audio and happen to change it in a way I liked. I won't get into the debate about trying to get transparent to the source but to my ears and eyes I enjoy the DSD converted audio more than the starting audio. It's free and you can try it yourself so no harm if you don't notice a difference.
  11. Yea I'm looking more forward to the new Stereo remix than anything cause it will probably now use a better master than the stereo versions we have seen recently from Hoffman and HDtracks. Now if only someone would be brave enough to do an audiophile quality release of Tales
  12. Just another example of Hoffman not having the discipline to say no to something that was a waste of time and money. He used a crappy non master for his AF SACD of CTTE that had ZERO high res information in it and charged $30 for it. Now Steve Wilson gets a hold of the multi tracks, makes a new stereo and 5.1 version of it and includes the original stereo mix all in high res? That is how you do a catalog release like this.
  13. This is where I read it looks like it is the original stereo mix and a new stereo mix along with a 5.1 version, If the multi tracks are available then you can create a new master. Yes - Close to the Edge 5.1 in October I have just been told it is okay to tell you all about this at long last - so here goes. Featuring brand-new stereo & 5.1 mixes by Steven Wilson as well as some additional bonus material and the original stereo mix in glorious high resolution, "Close to the Edge" will be released in October this year. I cannot say too much more at this point in time, but will update this thread as & when I am able to do so. This has been a very long time in the making, but well worth the wait - the new mixes sound absolutely glorious!
  14. Seems Steve Wilson has got a hold of the original multi tracks and is going to release a real 5.1 version along with a new remixed stereo version. given this we might actually get a legit high res release of this yet, to bad Hoffman does not have the skill set to do this as this was a completely wasted effort by him to just slightly clean up obvious non masters with no high res info and put it on SACD.
  15. Back on topic These are two example just in the last couple of months Heart - Dream Boat Annie 2013 HDTracks release--- > simply amazing Rush Counterparts AF SACD--> Blows away the CD release
