  1. More kudos to Roon. For those of us who have been asking for support for HQPlayer, Roon just received code from Signalyst to allow them to start the process of integration with HQP. In addition to adding the SQ many of us like from HQP, this should allow us to use the Sonare Sonic Orbiter or the SOtM sMS-100 as a network audio endpoint, in turn getting a computer out of our audio stack. Right now the only non-computer NAE that I know is on Roon's road map is Auralic's Aries. The Aries is more expensive and won't work for me technically, so I'm pleased as punch to have other options. Thanks Roon!
  2. $350.00 is Okay, but you pay shipping. I'll take care of the PayPal expense. If you are interested, email me quickly (I am negotiating on another unit too) at [email protected]. Thanks, Kirk
  3. The real reason for using a CAPS as the control PC is that generally speaking the pre must be within hardwire distance of the DAC, which must be within hardwire distance of the audio PC, which must be within hardwire distance of the control PC. Therefore, that means that the control PC is probably in your listening room, which in turn says it should be fanless ala CAPS. If you don't mind the fan noise, or if you can't afford 2 CAPS, you could use the desktop. But in the latter case, if I were you, I'd build a Zuma, put JRiver and WinServer on it and listen to it that way until I could afford a Lagoon too, and then switch to a dual setup. Just my opinion. Thanks, Kirk
  4. I know you're asking Phil and he should be along shortly. But I'm using Welborne Labs Power Supplies on both PC's and the USB card. However, they made minimal improvements. Perhaps if I had used Paul Pang's PS or Hynes PS I would have noticed a greater improvement. Someday budget may allow... Thanks, Kirk
  5. sbgk, I'm assuming that you are saying that JRiver is a compromise over JPlaymini? I heard minimal difference in my system between the two, the big differences came with the dual PC architecture and the addition of JPlay and AudioPhil to the software mix. Further, I hated having JRiver out of the loop because I use JRemote to drive JRiver from an iPad. And I use L5 Remote to control the rest of my system from the iPad, so I get a 1 box control solution. I like that feature a bunch. Obviously YMMV. Thanks, Kirk
  6. Ted, I followed you down this road due to your posts here and elsewhere. And I'm so glad I did! Kirk
  7. Hi everyone! I'm writing to let everyone know what my view is of AudioPhil's Windows Server scripts. I have a system that is described in my signature, which produces very good sound, in and of itself. But I have added Phil's version of the Windows 2012 Server to the mix on the Zuma and my system now produces a sound that even the all top-of-the-line Theta front end I used to own, could not produce. On a regular basis, when I try to listen to the sound of my current system, I find myself lost in the music instead. I strongly urge you to try the JRiver/JPlay/AudioPhil software combination - it simply has to be experienced to be believed. Thanks, Kirk
  8. I paid $650 for my PS Audio DAC. If you can get a similar deal, it's the best sound quality per dollar I've ever heard.
  9. Thanks Hifidelit! Kirk
  10. Thanks Hifidelit! This quote from Quest you posted is exactly what I needed. I had no clue what variables I needed-I tried a bunch of variables all day yesterday, but I don't think I tried this set. I'll try again tonight and post my results. Thanks again, Kirk
  11. I finally understand the architecture. But I do not know how to do the subnetting. As a result, when I try to have JPlay on the control pc find JPlay on the audio pc, it doesn't. I'm certain it's not the firewall, the firewall is off on both machines. And I'm certain JPlay is running on th audio pc. It's got to be in the lame way I've set up the network. Can you walk me through that piece please? Kirk
  12. Welcome to my world! I've done obtuse posts and PM's here and on JPlay to try and figure it out. I finally decided that, unless I simply tried it, I'd never figure it out. So I'm building a Zuma this weekend. Kirk
  13. I use iTap for RDP from my iPad and it works well. Kirk
  14. You're right, especially when there a bunch of more valid reasons for thinking I'm nuts! :-)
