  1. Is there a thread somewhere about optimizing Windows 10 settings for audio playback? I remember seeing one for Win 8 but not sure if one has been created yet for 10. My search results turned up nothing. Thanks guys!
  2. I have been looking at the ID41 but did not fully understand how I would implement it (not to mention the added cost ). So I connect directly to the Meridian with an Ethernet but what is connected to the other end? A NAS? Then that in turn is run off my laptop? I am still learning my way around networks. Thanks guys! The feedback certainly helps!
  3. Hello everyone, I am a long time reader (not much of a poster) of this forum and have benefited from all the knowledge of the members here. I felt compelled to post about my setup as I really value the opinions of the forum. I have a "fanless" laptop (Asus UX-305FA) serving as my steaming audio, audio file, and video file playing server running JRiver. It is connected by a generic USB cable to my Meridian 861v8 surround controller to the Meridian 5200 speakers. My question: Since the 861 applies triple FiFO buffering for jitter correction, apodising filters for pre-ringing and MHR for high quality digital transmission right up to the DAC in the speakers, is there any appreciable benefit from adding components and/or filters (REGEN, Power Supplies etc.) to my laptop or the replacement of my laptop with a dedicated CAPs system? If there is quality to be had, what components should be changed,/upgraded and what would be the most cost effective? I feel like I am creeping close to the law of diminishing returns. My source component is something I have been struggling a lot with. The system sounds fantastic as is, but I definitely do not want to be giving any quality away or holding the system back from its full potential. I realize that trial and error listening for my system/room configuration is the best answer but before going down that road would there be any real benefit to the source signal if all the Meridian processing is already being applied? Is there such thing as too much filtering or redundancy? I appreciate this forums thoughts and feedback. Thank you in advance.
  4. Thanks for the great ideas. Just to be clear I dont require a DVD/CD as my main computer does all the file tranfering to the storage drives. Just need the cleanest source possible to play the video and audio through my system. I have looked at the CAPS and like the approach for audio only. Can this same type of system accomodate video output is my main concern. Any specific mobo ideas? I have looked at the Intel ATOM. Does anyone know if this is capable of running Blu-Ray iso files through a media player such as ArcSoft with only the onbord chip graphics? Or a board that can? I am mainly trying to minimize EMI interfearance in the source. Any mobo's out there more tilited toward audiophiles? Thanks again.
  5. Hi all, I have been following this forum for a week now and find it every educating and respect the knowledge of the members. Hopefully you guys can shed some light on my plan and if this is the wrong question for this forum, please kindly direct me to the appropriate location. To make a long story short I am trying to create an A/V source computer / NAS system to feed my Meridian HD621 via HDMI where the audio and video signals are split to be separately processed by the 861 surround controller. I have a large amount of HD video and audio that is all stored in the digital domain waiting to be unleashed. I will be running Windows 8 Pro, JRiver 18, and ArcSoft Total Media Theater. The bottom line: Looking for suggestions on what individual components you would recommend combining to create a source / control unit where audio/video integrity is of the highest importance. Size and number of peripherals don’t bother me. My only stipulation is silent or very near silent operation. I am hoping to start this project with you and see it to fruition with updates, pictures, and feedback along the way. Thank you in advance for your time and contributions.
