  1. First post! I found this forum during an extensive web search for a digital music manager that allows the level of detail I desire in tagging and sorting my files. I've grown weary of manually tagging each track using editors like MP3tag; and regardless, I still need a player that lets me sort by all the details I embed in those tags. I'm ridiculously anal retentive and OCD about anything to do with organization, whether it's files on my PC or tools in the garage, so I understand if my demands aren't able to be met Background: I listen to a wide variety of music, but my problem is most acute with jazz and classical, as I want to maintain extensive personnel and recording session data. I also have a lot of OOP vinyl and underground cassette rips, which have caused me no end of frustration when trying to get metadata from the web. When I rip something myself, it is usually to FLAC, but I have a bunch of formats in my library Folder of Dubious Origin. I use a Windows Server 2008R2 platform and do not have any portable devices at this time. Apple products will never be in the picture. My "demands" for a library manager/tagger/player: 1. Allow tagging of comprehensive personnel, composer, lyricist, arranger, conductor, engineer, etc. data for each track, and create playlists filtered by such data. e.g., "play only tracks with lyrics by Lorenz Hart, with Philly Joe Jones on drums, arranged by Quincy Jones, and mastered by Rudy van Gelder." Or, "play only tracks featuring the 12-string guitar and Fender Rhodes." 2. Handles subparts of a composition (e.g., symphonic movements or parts to a suite) and won't break them up in a shuffle, even though they are discrete audio files. 3. Allows creation of virtual albums by linking the same music data file to multiple album releases (to save disk space for those pesky reissues or boxed sets that always result in duplicate files of the exact same recording). This would be best done by using the master session number as the primary key, at least for jazz. 4. Handles full album art/liner note scans, at the resolution/file size I choose, without compressing them. The closest program I can find to meet my needs is MusiCHI, but the GUI is god-awful and I'm not sure if I can get past the interface long enough to learn to love it. I wonder if software designed for radio stations or studios might have what I'm looking for. I tried searching for stuff in that sector, but it seems to be sales-rep driven, with little info available on the web, much less a trial download. I hope someone can offer me some recommendations here. Once I can get my media library into a state that makes it pleasant to use, I'll be looking for further advice on coupling my PC digitally to the Hi-Fi system. Cheers!
