  1. On TNT Audio I read the following comment: "The output is rated at 50 watts into 8ohms. It wasn't enough to drive my low sensitivity Usher standmounts but that's not a fair test." Not sure if it applies to everything by Usher or if they also have higher sensitivity models. I've never seen anythig by that brand yet but maybe I need to find more shops than the ones I've seen so far. I've seen the nuforce paired with smaller speakers from Piega, Elac or Dali but wasn't able to listen to how it sounded. I probably need to carry around my laptop and my nuforce and ask if I can try some of the speakers. Would you say I need a sensitivity of at least 88dB or that's not how it works?
  2. Hi, I'm looking for speaker recommendations to go with my nuforce dda-100. My room is kinda small (about 14m2) and I listen to classical music mostly, some old jazz/blues/country sometimes too. The nuforce is 2X50W for 8 ohms so I suppose I need some pretty efficient speakers. The guy in the shop where I bought the nuforce recommended some speakers from Monitor Audio although I can't remember the reference and he didn't have them at the time. I live in Japan in case it makes a difference in terms of price/availability (for example I rarely see anything from Dynaudio - which some people thought might make a good pairing with the nuforce). Thanks!
  3. Thanks a lot for your reply. My first priority I suppose is to learn how to tell the difference between a regular DAC and a power DAC. Then decide whether it's worth investing in a USB to SPDIF converter. I think of those DAC listed in my previous post only the nuforce, the olasonic and the wadia are power DAC.
  4. Hi, I'm new to this whole DAC thing but very interested. I take it "power dac" means dac + amplifier in one device right? Meaning once I get one of these things I only need speakers? I live in Tokyo, I've been shopping around for these things and I have to admit I have no idea which one to pick. In the Nuforce price range I saw these ones (some of which may just be regular DAC, I'm not really sure): Olasonic Nanocompo Ratoc Audio Lab DSDHA1 Alpha Design Lab Esprit Luxman DA-100 Fostex HP-A7 I also hear the Wadia 151 Powerdac mini is a popular choice though I couldn't find one here. So how does one make a decision without being able to hear how they sound? Are there things I need to know concerning specs and such that could help me in my choice? Also if USB doesn't sound as good as "spdif", how does one convert the usb output of a computer into "spdif"? Sorry, I'm a complete newb...
