1. Problem solved. I ran the code.. service networkaudiod start I now have audio via HQ Player on the MacMini to the SoC's speakers via Network Audio Adaptor...:-)))
2. Thanks to the Armbian guys I have now downloaded a beta version of Ubuntu (ARMBIAN Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS 3.4.113-sun8i) onto my NanoPi M1. Then I logged in as root user and downloaded the networkaudiod_3.4.0-32_armhf.deb package using wget https://www.signalyst.eu/bins/naa/linux/trusty/networkaudiod_3.4.0-29_amd64.deb and then installed it using apt-get install ./networkaudiod_3.4.0-32_armhf.deb At the end there is an error - not sure if this is important ( ?). N: Can't drop privileges for downloading as file '/root/networkaudiod_3.4.0-32_armhf.deb' couldn't be accessed by user '_apt'. - pkgAcquire::Run (13: Permission denied) With HQPlayer desktop running on a macMini on the same LAN it can’t find any NetWork Audio Adaptors. Back to the SoC where I installed the NAA. If I use ps –ef to list processes. Or service --status-all to list all services. There is no mention of “networkaudiod” anywhere. So it seems the NetWork Audio Adaptor is not running. Have I missed something, am I doing something wrong ?.
3. Yes of course Android can be used instead of IoS - but it is still an extra cost if you already have an iPad that works fine with all the other Player Apps...
4. Hi Miska, AFAIK Raspbian only works on the Raspberry Pi Broadcom SoC chip. All these NanoPi boards use the AllWinner H3 SoC chip, and so run Armbian flavours of linux.
5. Hi Carl, Thanks for your prompt reply. I will ask over on the Armbian forums about a Xenial image for the NanoPi M1. Since all these boards (incl. the Orange Pi + 2E) are all AllWinner H3 SoC based maybe it is not too hard to do... who knows... I will report back on my progress.
6. That still means if you don't have an iPad 2 air or later you'll need to buy one or use something else. This is unlike the Apps for other player SW that I have used / tried.
7. Did you get the HQP NAA working on your NanoPi Neo ?. I am trying to do the same thing on a NanoPi M1. When I try to install the https://www.signalyst.eu/bins/naa/linux/stretch/networkaudiod_3.4.0-32_armhf.deb there is a dependency error. It says it needs libstdc++6 (>=5.2). The installed version of libstdc++6 is 4.9.2-10 which is the latest available from Debian. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
8. The Roon IOS App also needs a newish iPad to run...which is an annoying extra cost.
9. Can I install the Network Audio Daemon on an ARMv7 SoC (AllWinner H3 quad core Cortex ) runing Debian Jessie with Armbian linux kernel 3.4.112-sun8i ?. I have the following libasound2 / ALSA tools packages installed libasound2:armhf 1.0.28-1 armhf shared library for ALSA applications libasound2-data 1.0.28-1 all Configuration files and profiles for ALSA drivers libasound2-dev:armhf 1.0.28-1 armhf shared library for ALSA applications -- development files libasound2-plugins:armhf 1.0.28-1+b1 armhf ALSA library additional plugin I downloaded the networkaudiod_3.4.0-32_armhf.deb package from here https://www.signalyst.eu/bins/naa/linux/stretch/ . But when I try to install it thee is a dependency problem as it says it needs libstdc++6 (>=5.2). The installed version of libstdc++6 is 4.9.2-10 which is the latest available from Debian. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
10. No HQP for me then. Thanks for your efforts and time Miska.
11. No the CDQ cannot play DSD. So what you're really saying is HQP is of little interest without a DSD capable DAC.
12. Upgraded to 3.14.2 , and speaker processing is now disabled (I enabled it to try sneding a test tone). My music files are stored on a NAS - so I copied some music files to the local volume. It is still the same.
13. PM sent. Roon / Audirvana+ / iTunes all work fine on the mac with the DAC. Seems only HQP has a problem.
14. If look in the system log I see this - it seems to have occured each time I play a track in HQP. Oct 13 10:08:23 Mini-Stephen HQPlayerDesktop[15400]: BUG in libdispatch client: kevent[EVFILT_MACHPORT] monitored resource vanished before the source cancel handler was invoked
15. Hi Miska, The DAC is not set as default audio device and there are not other applications running. At the start of playback there is a short burst of noise (few seconds) from the DAC and then nothing. This is exactly the same on both the mac mini and iMac. On the Windows 10 PC the DAC has sound and works with many different options in HQP, on both the macs always the same burst of noise from the DAC at the beginning of playback whatever settings I have tried. I tried making a log file, but where do I find the "~/.hqplayer" folder on a mac ? Hère are the screen shots.
