  1. The issue I found is that few of these are actually on Qobuz. Don't get me wrong, I love Qobuz... but Tidal just has WAY more variety, and their 'Daily Discovery' is excellent for finding new music.
  2. I put this list together for an audiophile buddy of mine I hadn't seen for while, and whose taste in music is (mostly) parallel to my own. At this local audiophile meetup, our host only had Qobuz, so virtually all the tracks I had planned to play weren't available (my list was on Tidal). These are mostly tracks that I knew 'Dave' (and the group) likely hadn't heard before, OR were tracks no one heard for a long time. So, I thought the group here might enjoy as well. I have about 7 or 8 more playlists I'm working on that are genre specific, and of course a 'test track / system show-off' list, but many of those tracks aren't really music that I would normally seek out to listen to for enjoyment... beyond evaluation and having my 'analytical' hat on... Anyway... here are some 'COOL jams' for the HOT summer :-) If you don't have a Tidal account, you can hear snippets of each song, but really, every one of these songs has some 'gold' in the track somewhere, so the short snippets aren't going to do much for you. Looking them up on a service like iTunes, or even youtube will give you a better sense as to what's on here. Also, I'll have to say that while I love Qobuz, Tidal absolutely owns them when it comes to breadth of material... Enjoy. >> COOL Jams for HOT summer <<
  3. I purchased my 9900-KS back in December (I bought mine for under $500, and now they're getting crazy money for it) but got sidetracked, and haven't picked up all the rest of the parts for my PC build. Picking the project up again now. I'll be using for my Roon Core as well as HQ player. It's also going to be used for large Photoshop file processing. Any suggestions on parts that should be updated from my original build plan, or just go with this? https://pcpartpicker.com/user/chrisvh/saved/XDnf99
  4. Any result on the Dark Rock 4 vs Noctua? Regarding the 'mess' of power cables, would you build with a different (bigger) chassis if you could start from scratch? If so, what chassis?
  5. Here is my near final parts list for PC server that will be used for Roon > HQPlayer & Photoshop tasks (not video). https://pcpartpicker.com/user/chrisvh/saved/ I already have the 9900KS processor, and am about to acquire all the other parts, but wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions to tweak? It's been about 4-5 months since I assembled this list (which was solid at the time), but maybe something new out there for RAM or drives that might make more sense? TIA
  6. I originally spec'd a liquid cooler when I originally proposed this build, but there was at least one person on this forum who noted these were susceptible to (eventual) leaking. I did some searching on other forums about this topic, and couldn't come up with any firm consensus on the actual risk, so decided to play it 'safe'.
  7. The Pro will be used for my OS / Programs, and the other will be used for Dropbox files + scratch disk for Photoshop. Didn't think I'd need a super-fast drive for the dropbox & scratch disk, so downgraded slightly there...
  8. My i9-9900KS will be here tomorrow, so I'll be locking-down my parts list in the next day or two, and start making my purchases. I'll try the 15S Noctua first, and if it looks like I can get the extra A15 in there without an issue, I'll pick that up. I have the Asus 2080Ti Strix in the build just to see where that put me for power needed, but will likely hold-off on that until next year, and just use my Quadro K4000 from other PC in the interim. Before I start ordering the rest of the parts, does anyone have any other suggestions, or words of caution for my FIRST DIY PC build ever? 🙂 https://pcpartpicker.com/user/chrisvh/saved/XDnf99 Miska's note about thermal paste application noted... Thanks for everyone's help!
  9. Thank you VERY much. So, it looks like a choice between using 2 RAM slots + extra fan vs the NH-D15, and having that tight with a PCIe slot... IF that's the case, then I'll probably still with the original fan selection of NH-D15, because I'd rather have that extra RAM than extra PCIe slot... Amazon shows the CPU will ship next week, and I'll have by next Wednesday, so need to get this locked-down this weekend... Thanks again, Elan!
  10. Right- I shouldn't have referenced the case, but rather the board components. I didn't think there'd be an issue with height (same as primary fan), but rather the additional horizontal footprint with the 2nd fan (and vertical board clearance), and whether that might be an issue? i.e. - 26mm difference in horizontal extension, and 32mm vert clearance (from board) in vertical dimension...
  11. Was taking another look at the differences between the Noctua fans, and came across this on Noctua's website: Users who have sufficient room can also upgrade the NH-D15S with either a 120mm (e.g. NF-A12x25 PWM) or round 140mm (e.g. NF-A15 PWM). @elan120 (or @Miska): Do you happen to know if that larger fan (140mm) will fit in the case I'm looking at (assume Elan is looking at same case?)? It appears using the larger fan brings the cooling spec back up to the D15... https://pcpartpicker.com/user/chrisvh/saved/XDnf99
  12. Have you confirmed that the D15 will be an issue clearing the PCIe slot (vs D15S), or are you just wanting the little extra 'wiggle-room'. Looks like the 15 is a little bit better for cooling, which is why I chose that one, but if I am compromising that cooling if I use the PCIe slot, then you're right and the 15S would make more sense...
  13. Thank you, Elan - yes, I also saw that. Just looks like I am giving up an m.2 AND PCIe slot, but gaining Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C. Given that I don't anticipate a need for 3rd M.2, I think that Designare might fit my need a little better, since I won't need to buy an additional Tbolt card...
  14. Thank you @Miska I just changed the parts list to include a 1TB 970 Pro. I am going to marinate on the Aorus Master vs Designare for a few days. I won't get the processor for another week or two, so still have some time to make a decision... Updated parts list here: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/chrisvh/saved/XDnf99
  15. Thank you, Miska!!! It appears the Kingston HyperX Predator @ 4 x 16 (64GB) @ 13 CAS latency will work great. 32 GB more than I wanted, but cost seems to be fairly reasonable. One more question if you don't mind? @Elan120 mentioned the Gigabyte Z390 DESIGNARE which seems to already have the built-in Thunderbolt 3. I don't think I'd need the 3rd m.2 slot (but who knows, down road), but it also looks like I lose a PCIe slot. So, comparing apples to apples, assuming I get a Thunderbolt 3 card to go in the extra PCIe slot of the Master, it's a 'wash' for available PCIe (when Thunderbolt 3 added), but I lose the extra m.2. Am I missing something else that would tilt towards the Designare vs Aorus Master? I've updated my parts list here. Do you see anything else I might need... (cabling, 3rd party thermal paste, etc...)? https://pcpartpicker.com/user/chrisvh/saved/XDnf99 Thanks again. Your help has been very valuable, and I'll definitely get the HQP4, once I get this built...
