  1. Hi ianmacc, Did you found the way to get artwork :-)? I also can't, probably, as we say in Russia, my hands are connected to the body with a wrong end.
  2. Dear Amarra users, I saw many complains that Amarra's forces pre-gaps where they should not be. I'm going to buy Amarra and I have another question (problem). All Mac software players start playing the track exactly when you push the button, immediately. In the real CD player it happens another way - you press the button and the sound comes in about two seconds, which I found to be the right way, as you can concentrate on the beginning of the sound, I found it very important. So, please, tell me - does Amarra put such pre-gap? I mean not the silence between tracks, when the whole album is listened, but silence BEFORE the song, when you listen for just single tracks, one from this album, one from another, the two-seconds silence after you push "play" or "enter". Or, as all the rest, it starts playing immediately? Vassili
  3. Peter, OK - Bootcamp. Will it be same sound quality as on real PC? Will firewire work (I ordered Weiss Vesta to connect to my dCS Purcell/Delius combo) in this case? And OK - question to those who use Amarra (also planned to purchase) - does this pregap (2 seconds of silence before the beginning of the song after pushing "play" or "enter") exists if you play not the whole album or playlist, but just a single song?
  4. Eloise, Of course, that came to my mind, but I would say it's not that kludgy, but just soooo long - thousands songs to process...
  5. Yep... I would say to get ready for the sound :-) So where is the way out? I believe there should be some solution
  6. Dear Peter, XXHighEnd is PC-only player? No Mac version (I have MacPro)? Will it work under Parallels? BTW - I found it really strange, that I do not see a lot of complains about this immediate start. The beginning and the end of the sound are two wonderful things (especially in Classic and Jazz), and really strange, that so many guys with the gear, capable to show those wonders in full beauty, just don't care about it. vassili
  7. Hello everyone, Have a question. Looks like everybody are not happy about silence between songs. Agree that it should hurt if it should not be there. But I have another, and probably opposite problem. In a real CD world when you press "play" button the sound doesn't come immediately, it has about 2 seconds delay, and I find it absolutely right way because you have a possibility to concentrate on the beginning of the sound. In iTunes, and looks like in every software player (correct me if I'm wrong), the sound come exactly with your "click", what I found really not that good. So, is there any way to have this "real CD-like" couple of seconds delay after pushing the "play" in software player? I know that that pregap will appear if you listen the whole CD (and what many people don't like), but I'm listening in most cases just one song, and then another one and so on - so how can I get the pregap? And can I at all?
  8. Hi folks, For those interested in external hard drive solutions for ATV http://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=5999 Looks great, but unfortunately I do not have enough experience to do it myself :-) BTW - If using wired connection to Mac Pro and not WiFi - will the AIFF files from iTunes library still be first compressed to Apple lossless, then streamed to ATV, then decompressed and played (like in WiFi mode)? This question is not to launch the discussion about sound difference between AIFF and lossless :-) but just to get clearance for myself and understanding. Vassili
  9. Steve, thanks a lot for setting absolute clearance in my head :-) about this. Vassili
  10. "I don't think that the wifi itself, as protocol, can be a bottleneck. the 802.11 G standard has a theoretical bandwidth of 54 Mb/sec, which in reality is about 24,7 Mb/sec. The bitrate of compressed and even WAV files is much lower than this..." Oh yes, I was not precise, I mean not bandwidth itself, but how the transmission is implemented.
  11. Thank you Steve. And Sonos and SB will make the same (or sort of, with another type of compression) as I understood? So wi-fi solution itself is one of the bottlenecks in the system. Just don't understand why, as technically there is more than enough possibility to send AIFF even with ATV's limitation of 5mbps. It's a pity as I don't want to sacrifice even a smallest part of sound quality and 160 GB of ATV is not enough really... Really a pity, looked very attractive. Vassili
  12. As far as I understood it right - if I have AIFF file in my iTunes and try to play it via Airport Express, it will be converted to Apple lossless, sent to AE, reconverted back on the fly and played. Is it right? And is it the same with AppleTV? Does that mean that I can not avoid this double processing using Apple products and wi-fi, and that it makes no sense to have AIFF if you use wi-fi? Does that mean that the only way to play AIFF without decoding on the fly from AppleTV is to have those AIFF files on the AppleTV's hard drive? And finally - is it different with Sonos - does it transfers the real AIFF or WAV without compression? The reason of these questions - I have to make choice with wireless music and I do believe that decoding on the fly may result in lower sound quality.
  13. I'm new to this forum, and first of all would like to say hello to all members. I'm from traditional high end audio camp and the idea to use my mac as music source for my home theatre and audio systems came after I bought ipod touch to my wife :-) and suddenly found the idea of music on computer very attractive. For my theater (based on Parasound Halo and Klipsch Reference) I'll use AppleTV via re-clocker (advices appreciated!) and such quality should be OK. But with audio (CEC TL1, dcs Purcell and Delius, Pathos Inpol2, Tannoy Canterbury 15HE) such solution looks like not sufficient to use all possibility of a system. I already studied the forum and understood that, probably, the best in my case will be Lynx AES16e to my dcs Purcell, and was ready to follow this way, but dcs Purcell has only one AES/EBU XLR input, which is already busy with CEC TL1, which I'm not ready to get rid of :-). Means I just have to use coaxial or optical digital input. Coaxial is anyway better. So my question - is there any comparable in sound quality solution, which will give me coaxial (not optical) output from my Mac Pro, keeping in mind also that even single (not 16) digital coaxial highest quality output will be enough. Mac Pro is in another room, but close to the same wall as audio system. so 4-5 meter cable should be enough. I already tried search function :-) and it did not bring my an answer, so I'm asking for your support and advice. Thanks in advance Vassili
