  1. magister, thanks for the reply. Keep us posted please on what you notice during the next few weeks. thanks again.
  2. Thanks ecwl. I'll await your eval.
  3. ecwl, Thanks for you reply. I didn't appreciate the HDPlex DC-DC design. I thought it had AC-DC functionality as well. As to your question, I was thinking cleaner power to the motherboard and perhaps to the SATA ports might be a good idea given all that I've read. However, I was not certain about needing to provide clean power to the SATA ports given I use a NAS for music files. What are your thoughts? Anyone else have a view? thanks
  4. Magister, You ask an interesting question. In addition, I'd ask the CA community if a HDPlex 250W ATX Power supply is as good a choice to power just the Carbon motherboard verses using the more Linear HDPlex Power supply option.
  5. Thanks for your posting Atkinsonrr! Has anyone used any of the HDplex power supplies to improve their V3 Carbon builds. If so, what did you do? I currently use the 65W external brick that Chris originally suggested to power my Carbon. However, I do have it plugged into my Audience Ar6-TSS Power Conditioner. I use a firewire for my Weiss DAC thus negating need for an external USB power. The Forum's input would be appreciated. Thanks.
  6. I'd like to produce a listing of all albums I have by artist and album title either from file folders in Windows or from within JRiver libraries. Does anyone have a tip they can share? A .xls, .csv or delimited file would be best.
  7. 1) Thanks for the response. 2) I have a Weiss DAC202 and am using the Weiss driver. 3) I do not know anything about the proper DoP settings. Teb_b can you fill me in. 4) I'm simply connecting my JRiver dedicated PC to my HP Windows Media server (where my audio files are stored) via a mounted drive \ folder share. 5) I stopped using "playback from memory" setting as of last night since it hasn't really worked properly since JRiver V18 I'm told ( Playback stuttering even with "Play files from memory instead of disk" options s ) 6) I am trying to see if a hard wired connections improves things. I'll keep you posed. Again, thanks for the input.
  8. I currently am running JRiver V19 on a Computer Audiophile CAP server 3.0 design (Intel atom with 4 gig of memory). When I play .dsf files (200 megabytes in size via a Windows Media Server / NAS on a wireless N network) the playback all too frequently stutters two to three times during the typical four minute track for about 5-7 seconds each time. This happens even with the “play files from memory instead of disk” options set within JRiver. Windows Performance Monitoring analysis reveals that there doesn’t seem to be much buffering if any occurring at the beginning of the track like I would expect there should given the “play from memory …”option has been set. Instead there are bursts of network activity three to four times during the playback with the first burst at the start of the track. The network traffic lasts for 30 seconds or so averaging about 12 megabits/sec. This happens two to three times during the song. Just at the start of the second and third traffic bursts the stuttering occurs suggesting the JRiver buffer is empty and the NAS file and transfer read can’t respond fast enough thus “starving” the playback momentarily. It seems two things are happening that I can’t explain as follows: 1) Why isn’t JRiver reading the entire file into memory before the song starts 2) Why am I getting any network traffic of significance during the playback 3) Why am I getting any stuttering especially associated with the leading edge of the network traffic “calls” Can anyone explain this behavior? I appreciate any help you might have to give. PS: With simple transfers my network performance is nothing less than 100 megabytes/sec.
  9. Ted, I wanted to thank you for your help. As you stated they would, the extracted .dsf files play wonderfully. My CPU load with the Atom Dual Core is maxs out at 20% playing the files. No buffering issues at all. I'm in bliss. Tagging is a no brainer as well. thanks again!! BTW... Are you still partial to the Granite Digital Firewire 9-6 pin? I'm in need of a cable for my Wiess and can go either 6 pin to 6 pin OR 9 pin to 6 pin given my using a SIIG card with FW 400 and 800 posts. What would you suggest?
  10. Ted, Thank you very, very much. This clears up the mystery nicely. I do have ISO files. What's the easiest have to convert ISO to 2 channel DSF?
  11. The answer to my question should be straight forward. I need CA Chris' input or someone else that has either solved the SACD playback issue with a Carbon or has exhausted all possibilities and has given up. Chris' original Carbon Build "Wrap Up" stated that he could play DSDs with the Carbon at that to-date it was his favorite server. Given that, why can't I and a buddy of mine (that just bought a Carbon from Green Computers) do the same? Help us please!! btw... Thanks to all that have relied thus far. I appreciated your input.
  12. This past week I built a Carbon. Thus far I have had no problems playing any files except SACD. Is this a design flaw with the Carbon or simply something I need to change or alter in my Win 8 or MC 18 config? Does anyone have a suggestion that may help my situation? Resource Monitoring on my Carbon NT2800MT running Win 8 32 bit for a variety of files trends as follows: 44.1 kHz at 16 bit => CPU & Max Frequency averaged 15% and 65% respectively 192 kHz at 24 bit => CPU & Max Frequency averaged 17% and 70% respectively 352khz (SACD)* => CPU & Max Frequency averaged 60%-70% & 98% respectively *Note: My Weiss DAC is limited to 192 Khz input. Given that Media Center application must via programming reduce the resolution of the bitstream of the file prior to feeding my DAC. Also note that the 60-70% CPU utilization for the SACD playback is mostly a result of MC18 (40-45%) and System Interrupts (15-20%)
  13. I am building a Carbon server. Would I be better off using the eSata slot with a FireWire Express Card OR using A PCI Express FireWire card to drive my DAC?
